“Supergirl” Recap: Do You Believe

“Supergirl” moves things forward in “Rather the Fallen Angel,” in which Supergirl teams up with Manchester to find out more about the Agents of Liberty. James is forced to make a difficult choice while Lena advances her superhuman research.

Subject 0331 | Lena gets a dark storyline this week as she recruits a guy named Adam, who is feeling guilt over his brother’s death, to be a human test subject for her incredibly stupid plan to use the alien rock to give someone superpowers. Adam confides in her that his brother died giving his kidney in a transplant to  save his life, while Lena in turn reveals that when she was 4, she watched her birth mother drown in a lake and did nothing. Lena feels so guilty over this that she aborts the trial on Adam, who insanely talks her into using the formula on him anyway in an effort to save lives. And here’s where things get messed up: Adam freakin’ dies minutes after Lena injects him with the formula! Cold. As. Ice.

Shelley Island | Meanwhile, James is taken by the Agents of Liberty to Shelley Island, a kind of Ellis Island for alien immigrants that was shut down after President Marsden resigned and is now the base for the Agents. Tom tries to help James escape, but they get caught and James is told that he either blows up the Island’s monument, or Tom dies.

Supergirl and Manchester do some detective work to figure out that the Agents are on Shelley Island and the pair go there, only for superpower draining devices to weaken Supergirl. To make matters worse, Manchester hands her over to the Agents, having struck a deal with them to get to Agent Liberty. To make matters worse x2, Lockwood isn’t even there and they tie up Supergirl in the monument that James is about to bomb.

The Great Escape | Manchester figures out that he’s being used and manages to get the name of the real Agent Liberty before killing many Agents and taking out the power inhibitors. This gives Supergirl the energy to send a signal to James before he can blow up the monument, but an Agent activates the bomb anyway. Fortunately, Supergirl flies the bomb into the sky and it explodes harmlessly. As Manchester is running away, J’onn confronts him about his betrayal and Manchester sticks some empath amplifier on him that makes him feel all the pain Manchester is feeling. J’onn then arrives at Kara’s doorstep and tearfully confesses that he was wrong about Manchester.

“Supergirl” airs Sundays on The CW.
