“Supergirl’s” latest episode, “Dark Side of the Moon,” was lazy, uninspired and hands down one of the worst episodes of the season, if not the worst. It’s that bad.
Supergirl and Mon-El travel to a city of Krypton that survived the planet’s destruction, where Kara is unexpectedly reunited with her mother. Lena faces a moral dilemma while Alex deals with an assassin.
Homecoming | Supergirl and Mon-El land on the meteorite, which turns out to be the last surviving city of Krypton where Alura is alive. As Kara catches up with her mother, Mon-El meets an ailing young boy and gives him a future device that cures his illness. Mon-El had a magic disease ending gadget and never told anyone??? Remember when Alex and Winn were sick a few episodes ago? Where was that then???

Babysitting | In a completely inconsequential storyline, Alex is nearly killed by an assassin, and at first, she thinks it was the sheriff who killed Kara’s childhood friend from Midvale. That would’ve been a cool callback- if it was true. Turns out it’s the brother of a Fort Rozz inmate who we never saw or heard about. He gets taken down in seconds and then the show pulls out an out of place moment of Alex realizing that being a mother and a secret agent doesn’t go hand in hand. This would’ve been effective had it had any context.
No Win Scenario | As Reign is resisting Lena’s Kryptonite supply, Supergirl convinces the council of Krypton to give up part of the rock they need to stop Reign, which is also providing them with the energy they need to stay alive. After a brief back and forth, they agree to give up a piece to Kara. So, there were no problems any of our heroes faced this week. Great! Even more baffling, one of the Kryptonian council members is the one who created the worldkillers, but this never comes up! Supergirl and Mon-El arrive just in time to see Reign escape from Lena’s cage and the episode has the guts to end before the fight starts. Boo!
“Supergirl” airs Mondays on The CW.
