“Supergirl” Episode Review: Youth in Revolt
In “Supergirl’s” antepenultimate season 2 episode, “City of Lost Children,” James forms a bond with the young son of an alien who attacked a city square. Lena continues to work with Rhea on a technology that could spell doom for Earth.
Time to pile on the totally screwed! Rhea sets her master plan into motion as she uses Lena to create a portal to Daxam refugees for them to invade and take over Earth. And to top it off, she convinces Mon-El that his father killed himself out of grief over losing him, potentially swaying Mon-El to her side. Rhea is certainly shaping up to be a capable and ruthless villain and even better, has made sure she is unbeatable by immobilizing J’onn and making the portal indestructible. Always fun to stack the world against our heroes.
James also got some good character stuff when he bonds with Marcus, the son of an alien who is being controlled by Rhea’s machine. This really highlighted the true purpose of James suiting up as Guardian, as James realizes that you don’t have to have a costume to do heroic things. As cheesy as it sounds, it worked in the episode’s favor.
“City of Lost Children” finally tees up the season’s climax in a way reminiscent of the first season’s Myriad finale. With only two episodes left, it’s time to see how all the pieces of the season will come together.
“Supergirl” airs Mondays on The CW.
