“Supergirl” Episode Review: Mending Fences

This week on “Supergirl,” Mon-El’s parents issue a bounty on Supergirl, forcing the pair to confront the king and queen of Daxam. Alex meets Maggie’s ex-girlfriend and discovers a secret.

Following the Flash/Supergirl musical crossover, during which Kara and Mon-El got back together, “Distant Sun” served as a bridge towards the final act of the season. Rhea and Lar Gand took center stage as Rhea went to drastic lengths to get her son back. Rhea was a more one-dimensional villain for the show, while Lar Gand had the more interesting arc as he accepted his son’s decision, only for him to get killed by his own wife in the end.

There was also some drama with Alex and Maggie, as Alex discovered that Maggie cheated on her last girlfriend, Emily. While this added a new dimension for their relationship, it resolved very quickly and had little consequences for the pair.

Not much else to say this week, aside from some cool fight scenes directed by Kevin Smith and the obligatory “Star Wars” joke that earned a laugh. “Distant Sun” was entertaining, yet uneventful, and with the show taking a one month (!) hiatus, it seems that season 2 is gearing up its endgame.

“Supergirl” airs Mondays on The CW.
