“Supergirl” Episode Review: Never Fight Alone

supergirl-207-darkest-place-review

This week on “Supergirl,” Maggie issues an arrest warrant for Guardian, who was framed for murder by a vengeful vigilante. Supergirl attempts to rescue Mon-El from the clutches of Cadmus, who have sinister plans for the Girl of Steel.

“The Darkest Place” very much felt like a prelude to a bigger story that the season will no doubt unpack. Cadmus stepped out of the shadows more this week, as the villain was revealed to be Lillian Luthor, who clearly has an agenda with Supergirl’s blood. That, and the unveiling of Cyborg Superman, played peculiarly by David Harewood. Apparently, Cadmus modeled the Cyborg after the dead Hank Henshaw, which makes very little sense. After all, wouldn’t it make more sense to model him after Superman?

Also, J’onn discovered Megan’s true identity and had a pretty cool brawl before he arrested her for no apparent reason. But the reveal that Megan’s blood transfusion is turning him into a White Martian is a pickle the show seemingly can’t get out of. But hey, I’ve bene wrong before.

The other plot threads were just distractions this week. At first, it seemed like the Guardian copycat was a cool plot, but it was dealt with by episode’s end, wasting potential. And Alex and Maggie seemingly agreed to be just friends, which honestly feels like a cheat reminiscent of the Kara/James breakup and not in a good way.

“The Darkest Place” was another mixed bag, but, par for the course, it was still a solid episode in its own right. Next up, the four night mega crossover event!

“Supergirl” airs Monday nights on The CW.
