“Supergirl” Episode Review: Choppy Waters

In “The Last Children of Krypton,” Supergirl and Superman team up to fight Metallo, a Kryptonite powered criminal funded by Cadmus. Alex and Winn work together to find out more about Cadmus, while Kara deals with her new boss, Snapper Carr.

With Superman exiting the show, (for now) viewers certainly got their fill of Superman action this week. Seeing the two heroes team up to fight a straight up super villain was nerdgasm inducing stuff, with some really creative action, especially in the final tag team fight at the end.

And Superman isn’t the only one who got a sendoff this week. Yes, Cat Grant is finally exiting the show. Again, the writers wisely saved key interactions between her and Kara for her last episode, notably that Grant didn’t once call Kara by the wrong name this episode. It really shows how far their relationship has come over the show.

Kara also dealt with Snapper Carr, her new boss who turns out to be a straight up abusive jerk, treating Kara like nothing and only referring to her as “Ponytail.” It’s ironic that Kara finally gets a working relationship with one boss, only to go back to square one with her new one.

And then there was the whole subplot of Kara wanting to move to Metropolis, which was forgotten as quickly as it came. Much like Kara and James taking a break last week, it was poorly established that Kara wanted to leave her friends and family behind so quickly. Fortunately, it was instantly dropped and only served to give Kara and Alex some drama.

“The Last Children of Krypton” was a solid sendoff for two characters and one of the more action packed episodes the show has given us, which is saying a lot. Season 2 is off to a phenomenal start and here’s hoping that continues.

Supergirl airs Mondays at 8pm on The CW.
