“Supergirl” Episode Review: Be It Ever So Humble
In potentially Supergirl‘s best episode to date, Kara was trapped in a fantasy world in which she never left Krypton, while Astra and Non attempted to execute a dangerous plan called Myriad. Alex is forced to make a difficult alliance with Maxwell Lord to save her sister’s life.
“For the Girl Who Has Everything” was practically film quality storytelling. In an episode that has a strong emotional story, some sprinkles of comedy, action scenes and a major character death, it was a big challenge to keep it all in one hour and make it palatable. The fact that this episode pulled it off as well as it did is nothing short of great TV.
Every character got at least one big thing to do, but Alex stole the show here. Chyler Leigh owned this episode, having two major emotional scenes that other actors would’ve crumbled under the pressure of. She kills it here, showing just how much Alex loves her sister when she will go as far as she does to protect her, even killing Astra in cold blood.
Astra’s death was a shocker, especially when Hank takes the blame to keep Alex’s hands clean. It should give interesting drama to the coming episodes now that Alex has a spectre over her head that she killed Kara’s aunt. Astra’s final moments were also truly heart-breaking, finally seeing her niece as a true hero.
“For the Girl Who Has Everything” was, simply put, the best hour the show has given us to date. It’s a game changer that somehow manages to have everything fans love about the show in one episode while also not being afraid to be dark. This is the standard for all future Supergirl episodes.
Supergirl Season 2 premieres Monday, October 10, at 8pm on The CW.
