“Stitchers” Recap: Hot and Bothered

This week on Stitchers, the team plays an ongoing game of Trust Fall. Cameron and Kirsten navigate being in a relationship given it is Kirsten’s first relationship since getting her emotions back. Camille meets a kindred snark spirit in the new Medical Examiner and sparks fly. Linus finds himself in the company of Ivy and being one of the only members of the team to really trust her fully. Maggie trusts no one not even herself but that is not a new development. “For Love or Money” was written by Adam Lash & Cori Uchida and directed by Nina Lopez-Corrado. Here’s what went down.

DROWNING IN LOVE | This week the Stitch in question is a young woman who was drowned in her boyfriend’s pool after a night of fun. They stitch into her and among the many many memories of the pair being intimate, Kirsten (Emma Ishta) is able to get images of the girl, Sabine, meeting with a shady character and then spying on her boyfriend, more specifically, his father. She gets a bunch of phone lock codes and the image of the phone being hidden but has to bounce when they reach the death memory. At first, they think it was the boyfriend, Nic’s (guest star Pete Ploszek), father who had her killed for spying on him through his son but the father never leaves Russia for fear of attack as he is a hot shot businessman. Fisher (Damon Dayoub) interviews Nick about it and it seems he wasn’t aware of the secret phone. He doesn’t have to worry long because his father has already placed the pieces in motion for him to be brought home to Russia.

Kirsten and Cameron (Kyle Harris) go to Nick’s house where they find the secret phone but the lock codes from the stitch don’t work leaving them with one final try to unlock it before it wipes its own data. They give the phone to Linus (Ritesh Rajan) who secretly takes it to Ivy (guest star Sarah Davenport) for optimum code cracking. She cracks it and they call the last number on the list which leads them to a very dead guy in an alley. Meanwhile, Kirsten and Cameron search a park after dark for Sabine’s missing bag Kirsten saw in the stitch and when they find it, it is full of a whole lot of drugs. They stitch into the guy from the alley and learn he was using Sabine to get information on Nick’s father’s newest military contract so that he could do a little insider trading but he was caught by one of the father’s competitors who wanted to use Sabine for a much more violent move against Nick’s father. They wanted Sabine to plant drugs on Nick to get him detained and when she wouldn’t, killed her to accomplish the same end game. Nick being detained meant his father would leave the safety of his security detail in Russia to come rescue his beloved son. They track Nick and his father to a private security firm and intercept them on their way to the airport. They weren’t the only ones to do so and the man from the stitch shows up and starts shooting. They get to him in time and Nick’s father is only mildly wounded in the process.

EMOTIONS NEWBIE | After last week’s confession of feelings, Kirsten and Cameron are officially in a relationship. Camille (Allison Scagliotti) warns Cameron that he needs to take it slow with her as this is Kirsten’s first relationship after getting her emotions back. They are very much in the honeymoon phase but Cameron is still worried about her after what she told him about hearing things in the stitch with her mom. He worries she doesn’t trust him and voices as much when he asks her to dinner to have “the talk”. She promises him she trusts him and to show him, she takes him to the secret place where her mom’s habitation pod is being kept and they stand together looking at the pod.

“REBEL WITHOUT A CORPSE” | There is a new medical examiner, Amanda (guest star Anna Akana), being brought into the fold and Maggie (Salli Richardson-Whitfield) sends Camille to go meet her and make sure she is up to snuff and to get any DNA information pertaining to the case. They immediately hit it off and share snarky banter but unfortunately the DNA results have not come in yet. Amanda promises to call her when the results come in and uses that as a reason for Camille to write her number on her hand just in case Camille was unsure about the flirtatious nature of this entire exchange. Later, Camille gets a call from Amanda telling her she has the results but can’t say them over the phone. In a very foreboding manor, she tells Camille to meet her but when Camille shows up at the address Amanda texted her, she finds herself at a club where none other than Amanda is the DJ. She comes over when she sees Camille who is now flustered and impressed. Camille asks about the DNA and Amanda nonchalantly tells her there was nothing. Camille points out that information could have easily been relayed over the phone but Amanda is like that would have defeated my entire plan to turn this work date into a date date and pulls her off to get drinks.

The next morning while Linus is dutifully making Camille breakfast because that is what one does when you pick up your friend for work, Camille gets a call from Amanda. She invited Camille to come to the club again that night but Camille hesitates. Amanda tells her no sweat and if she is curious what she missed she can check Instagram. Linus hears the sounds of flirting and comes running but Camille tries to play it off as nothing at first. When he pushes she admits that maybe she met someone and he tells her to give the person a chance and trust. She takes his words to heart and later when Maggie asks if she thinks they should trust Ivy, says yes. Unfortunately for her, Maggie sees this trusting nature as unfit to lead the team so when she has to choose someone to take over her duties while she is away, chooses Cameron instead of Camille. Later, Camille goes to the club to see Amanda who is delighted Camille changed her mind. When she leaves the DJ booth and comes over, Camille smiles and kisses her.

TO TRUST OR NOT TO TRUST | Linus is on team “Trust Ivy” but he might be the only one. The rest of the team seems wary of her given her past connections to Stinger even though Ivy maintains that she has cut ties with him. Linus goes to see her at the school where she works as a computer teacher and tells her that he believes her and then asks her out to dinner which she accepts. That dinner has a wrench thrown in it when Maggie needs Linus to crack the phone code but he turns their date into a code breaking date because Ivy is an amazing code breaker. Sure enough, she cracks the code and Linus takes the phone back to the lab where everyone is thoroughly upset that he involved Ivy. Later, when they need to hack into some Russian banking records, Kirsten calls upon her sister for help much to Maggie’s anger. Maggie and Cameron stand by their distrust but it is three against two when Camille joins Kirsten and Linus on Team Trust.

OTHER THOUGHTS:
• Line of the Night goes to Camille for, “And that my friends is how the Russian nesting dolls un-nest.”
• I don’t know what I enjoy more, the fact that Camille expects the boys to make/bring her breakfast when they come over or the fact that they actually do it.
• The gag of Kirsten blowing into the mic to check it’s working after Cameron ignored her saying she was ready was relatable and my brand of sarcasm.

So what did you think? Do you trust Ivy? Was Maggie right to put Cameron in charge? What do you think of our new Medical Examiner, Amanda? Let us know your thoughts and theories in the comments below!
