Star-Crossed’s Aimee Teegarden Talks Creating New World

We sat down with the star last summer while promoting the new show in San Diego and she talked a bit about dipping her feet into the Sci-Fi genre.

Teegarden reveals that the sci-fi aspect of her mid-season show was “definitely one of the big factors” that drew her to the pilot. “Sci-fi’s fantastic,” she says. “You’re getting to create a world. You’re getting to create everything — not just the relationships and the people, but you’re getting to create how people talk in the future, what do people wear, what do people eat, how do people get around.”

“If you could see ten years into the future,” Teegarden continues, “what is something you’d like to change? I think that’s so fun. It’s part of my job as an actor to get to create these things and so it’s a different way to sort of create and imagine.”

Along with creating a new world where aliens — or Atrians as they are referred to in the show — invade a small town in Louisiana, comes creating what sort of abilities or powers they would possess. As for being romantically linked with one of the said Atrians, Teegarden feels her character, being a human, is “definitely at a disadvantage. If he’s telepathic, I think that would be very strange. I don’t like being at a disadvantage in a relationship. I like being in control. I’m maybe a bit of a control freak.”

Star-Crossed premieres Monday, February 17, at 8|7c on The CW.
