Spike to Encore Season 1 of “The Shannara Chronicles” This Summer Ahead of Season 2

The Shannara Chronicles is on the move.

Season 2 of MTV’s adaptation of the Terry Brooks novels is headed to fellow Viacom-owned network Spike, where it will make its premiere in October. Before that, however, the cabler, soon to be called “The Paramount Network,” will re-air the series’ inaugural season this summer in hopes to bring established fans of the series over to the new network, as well as introduce its current viewers to the new show.

Spike hopes to give the transplant a big boost in viewership; season one of The Shannara Chronicles is being given the plum time slot of Thursdays at 11pm beginning June 29, following new episodes of the network’s highly anticipated scripted series The Mist.

Season two of Shannara takes place one year after the events of last season. The Four Lands are in chaos – the re-emergence of magic has the populace terrified, and an organization called The Crimson is hunting down magic users, using fear and intimidation to sow discord among the races. Wil, scarred by the loss of Amberle and his separation from Eretria, has turned his back on his magical destiny to become a healer. But when a mysterious woman named Mareth saves Wil from a Crimson attack, he is forced to rejoin the fight.
