Warner Bros. much beloved 1996 family film “Space Jam” is finally getting a sequel and that sequel, entitled Space Jam: A New Legacy, has finally unveiled its first trailer.
Swapping out Michael Jordan for LeBron James, the new film also stars Looney Tunes legends, such as Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Yosemite Sam, Tweety Bird and the return of Bugs’s love interest Lola Bunny, who will be voiced by “Euphoria” star Zendaya.
The trailer, which you can view below, shows LeBron having an argument with his son, before both of them are sucked into a virtual world ruled by Don Cheadle (“Avengers: Endgame”), who forces LeBron to team up with the Looney Tunes and other famous Warner Bros. characters, such as the Iron Giant and King Kong, to compete in a basketball game to save his son. It also earns bonus points for featuring a remix of Quad City DJ’s’ theme song to the original “Space Jam.”
Directed by Malcolm D. Lee (“Girls Trip”) and produced by Ryan Coogler (“Black Panther”), the film also stars Sonequa Martin-Green (“Star Trek: Discovery”), Martin Klebba (“Pirates of the Caribbean”) and comedian Gabriel Iglesias.
“Space Jam: A New Legacy” is slated for a simultaneous theatrical release and HBO Max debut on July 16, 2021.
