Academy Award winning filmmaker Danny Boyle (127 Hours) and acclaimed screenwriter Alex Garland (Ex Machina) are returning to the horrific world that put their names on the map in the highly anticipated 28 Years Later, which judging from the near perfect first trailer, will be the craziest, bloodiest and most stressful installment in the franchise thus far.
Set in the world of Boyle’s 2002 horror film, 28 Days Later, and Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s 2007 sequel, 28 Weeks Later, the third installment arrives next summer after years in development hell. Starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Bullet Train), Jodie Comer (Killing Eve), Ralph Fiennes (The Menu), Jack O’Connell (Money Monster) and returning from the first installment, newly minted Oscar winner Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer).
From the synopsis provided by Sony Pictures, “It’s been almost three decades since the Rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist among the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily defended causeway. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but the other survivors as well.”
28 Years Later hits theaters on June 20, 2025. Will you be checking it out? Where would you hide out in a zombie apocalypse? Let us know below.
