“The Shannara Chronicles” Season 2 Premiere Recap: Healing the Healer

The Shannara Chronicles is finally back on our TV’s with new episodes, rejoice! After moving from MTV to Spike, the show finally premiered it’s second season and totally knocked it out of the park! The premiere is full of action, badass ladies, a long awaited haircut, and some bad guys. ‘Druid’ was written by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, and directed by Brad Turner.

Truths Revealed | The episode briefly shows how Eretria (Ivana Baquero) reunites with former allies of her family –a druid named Cogline and his people–and joins them, then flashes forward to one year later where the story picks up. Eretria is in a relationship with the beautiful Lyria (Vanessa Morgan), but is secretly sad that Wil (Austin Butler) never came looking for her. After falling into the ocean thanks to a troll, Eretria almost drowns but sees Amberle (Poppy Drayton) floating in the water with her, and Amberle has a message for her. Something really bad is coming, she needs to find Wil.

The rest of Eretria’s story this episode consists of her finding out Wil did actually come looking for her. She decides she needs to go find him, and Lyria joins, but they get captured along the way.

Darkness is Coming | Bandon (Marcus Vanco) has gone full evil and has decided to resurrect the Warlock Lord and turn his followers into wraiths, sent after Wil. Allanon (Manu Bennett) tries to stop Bandon, but that only results in a sword fight between the former allies.

Healer Wil | Wil has decided to give up magic and become a healer. He’s a great student, put when it comes to surgery he just doesn’t have what it takes. He meets a patient who becomes a stalker/protector later in the episode, and though they don’t give her name yet we know that it’s Mareth (Malese Jow). She follows Wil to a bar and reveals she’s been following him, but only to protect him from the bounty hunters after him. Mareth helps Wil escape, but he gets injured in the process. He must use his Elf Stones to heal.

Wil’s bad luck isn’t over yet, because Bandon’s awful wraiths are after him as well. Mareth reveals she’s a magic user too and gets Wil the hell out of there. Then she reveals her real reason for being there, she needs to find her father, Allanon.

How was that for an epic premiere?!? The Shannara Chronicles lost none of its magic and appeal between the seasons, instead it just feels like an extension of the magical feeling the first season left you with. What do you think is going to happen this season? Will we see more of Amberle?
