After slowing down last week, Severancelatest episode, “Who is Alive?,” hits the gas as things starts to heat up inside and outside the office. Mark works with Devon to communicate with his Innie, but a stranger solution presents itself. Dylan has a personal encounter, while Cobel weighs her options.

Have You Seen Ms. Casey? | The episode begins with poor Cobel (Patricia Arquette) sleeping in her car parked on the side of an icy road before a passing truck wakes her up. That morning, Mark (Adam Scott) goes to work, but times how long it takes him to get from his car into the elevator. Once at work, Mark prints out missing posters with Ms. Casey’s face sketched on them and asks Helly (Britt Lower) and  Irving (John Turturro) to hit up the other departments and ask about her. Irving is nervous about going to Burt’s old department, but Helly convinces him that he can do it. As Mark and Helly try to find the goat man they saw last season, Irving tells Dylan (Zach Cherry) that he has recreated the paintings his Outie was working on, before Ms. Huang (Sarah Bock) catches them and asks Dylan to come with her.

The Lonely Goatherd | Milchick (Tramell Tillman) arrives at his office to find Natalie (Sydney Cole Alexander) waiting for him with the board’s speakerphone. She presents him with a set of paintings as a thank you gift from the board, all of which show him as Lumon’s CEO, Kier, in various scenarios. As Cobel is driving out of town, she suddenly does a U Turn and drives her car back the way she came. Mark and Helly return to the room where they found the goats to find it empty, but there’s a small tunnel leading out of the room that they traverse through. On the other side is a field where the baby goats are grazing happily, but there is a man dressed as a black goat watching them that they don’t see. They do see a woman with a green keycard and a pair of scissors in her hand (Gwendoline Christie) who asks if they’re here to kill her.

They ask her if she’s seen Ms. Casey, but she gets angry and rings a cowbell, summoning dozens of others all wearing her green keycards. Ms. Huang takes Dylan to the security room and lets him in, only for him to see his wife, Gretchen (Merritt Weaver), waiting for him in the new wing that Milchick was telling him about. Ms. Huang gives him eighteen minutes to visit with her, as Gretchen tells him about their three children and tells him that his Outie has had trouble keeping jobs, which Dylan seems upset  by.

Hubris | Irving visits Burt’s department and reminisces with Felicia (Claudia Robinson), one of Burt’s coworkers. He shows her sketches  he did of Burt in his notebook, but she also sees a drawing of the black hallway, which she recognizes as the export hall, causing Irving to ask her where it is. Back with Mark and Helly, they are surrounded by men intimidating them, but Mark asks them what they would do if one of their goats went missing. This makes the woman change her tune and she tells them that she won’t stop them trying to find Ms. Casey. But she does ask them to lift up their shirts so she can see their bellies for some weird reason…

That night, Dylan is at home with Gretchen and she tells him that it was weird to see his Innie. Ricken (Michael Chernus) is visited by none other than Natalie, who is there to praise his book and ask him to rewrite it for the Innies. Devon (Jen Tullock) tells Mark about this while they work on making a light refractor that reflects the words “Who is alive?” into Mark’s iris for the exact period it takes him to get from his car to the elevator. As Helena (Britt Lower) is leaving for the night, she is met by Cobel, who asks her to be reinstated at Lumon and wants Milchick gone. Helena then calls Natalie and asks to speak to the board, but as they walk back to the office, Cobel suddenly stops and gets in her car and drives off.

While testing the light, Mark is met by Asal (Karen Aldridge) who tells him that the light trick won’t work, but she confirms to him that his wife is alive. She tells him that there is only one way to get information, but Mark agrees before even hearing what it is. Asal sets up equipment in Mark’s basement to try to “reintegrate” him and asks him basic questions about his life, but suddenly, Mark is unable to answer and remembers him waking up in Lumon’s conference room.
