Now that Severance has introduced numerous new mysteries for us to chew on, this week’s episode, “Goodbye, Mrs. Selvig,” slows down a bit and rewinds to the time period of the previous episode from another perspective. As Mark reels from the fallout of what transpired, Milchick must do damage control.

She’s Alive! | We jump back to the moment that the Overtime Contingency was switched off, but this time, it’s from the Outtie’s perspective. Mark (Adam Scott) wakes up in Devon’s (Jen Tullock’s) house and she immediately realizes that he’s woken up and hugs him. At Lumon, Outtie Helly AKA Helena (Britt Lower) orders Milchick (Tramell Tillman), who’s just sent Dylan (Zach Cherry) home, to track down the Outties who were involved before she goes to see Kobel (Patricia Arquette) to thank her for her work and offers her a promotion, but Kobel wishes to remain on the Severed floor. Helena, however, tells her that Milchick has been promoted to her position, which Kobel doesn’t take well. Milchick then rides his motorbike to Irving’s (John Turturro) house to fire him and then does the same to Dylan, while Helena records a video writing off her outburst to alcohol.

Back at Devon’s house, Devon thinks that Mark’s “She’s alive” outburst was referring to her baby after she was found safe, but is not convinced, given that Mark was holding the photo of him with his wife. Milchick arrives at the house to explain what happened and inform him that Kobel has been fired, alerting Mark to the fact that she is his neighbor. However, Milchick refuses to fire Mark, but Mark is naturally hesitant to return to work.

In and Out | Mark drives home and tries to find Kobel next door, but sees no one, while Helena watched security camera footage of her Innie kissing Mark. The next morning, Mark gets a text from Devon, who offers to take him out for lunch. Dylan applies to a new job at a door manufacturing company, but he doesn’t get the job once he reveals that he was Severed. At lunch with Devon, Mark insists that he’s quitting Lumon, but Devon tries to convince him to confirm Mark’s wife’s death, since she thinks he was talking about her at the party. Mark refuses to accept that she could be alive and walks out. Later that night, Irving goes to a phone booth- they still have those?- but as he makes his call, Burt (Christopher Walken) watches him from a distance.

Mark is visited in his apartment by Milchick, who offers him a fruit basket. He tries to convince Mark to return to work, offering a 20% raise and regular wellness checks, but asks if he’s still grieving his wife’s death, saying that Mark was motivated to take the job to forget about her death. The next day, Mark returns to work, while Helena watches from the floor above, saying that they need him at work long enough to complete their goal. After some time, Milchick plays a recording of Innie Mark’s begging for his team back to Helena and she agrees to go back. As Mark goes to work the next day, he sees Mark W. (Bob Balaban) being walked out the front doors. Mark goes down the elevator, followed by Dylan, Irving and Helena.

At the end of the day, as Mark is driving home, he sees Kobel packing her things in her car. He confronts her and demands answers, but she ignores him and tries to drive away. Mark jumps in front of her car and asks if she knows about his wife and after a long silence, Kobel starts screaming, honks the horn loud enough to scare Mark out of the way and drives off.
