In the season finale of “A Series of Unfortunate Events,” the Baudelaires discover a shocking secret about the workers of Lucky Smells, while Olaf reappears with a sinister scheme.
“The Miserable Mill: Part Two” closes out the season with more darker material, hints about the future and a musical number to boot! Granted, most of the episode was resolving the hanging threads from Part One, but it did so in an entertaining fashion.

This was a fairly violent episode for a kids show, with a gruesome leg injury and a villain being incinerated. Not to mention the Duncan and Isadora’s parents and brother seemingly dying in a horrible fire caused by a mystery woman. Ballsy for the show to build up two characters as the savior of the children, and then not only rip those hopes to pieces but kill them off definitively.
The final confrontation in the mill with poor Charles nearly being dismembered was quite intense and had a very dramatic ending, what with Orwell being burned to death and all. The season ended on a somber, yet hopeful note as the Baudelaires were dropped off at Prufroc Prepetory Academy with Duncan and Isadora and receiving the spyglass from an unseen Jacqueline. A very dark ending for the season, but it certainly keeps in line with the uncompromising storyline.
“The Miserable Mill: Part Two” closed out the season on a high (low?) note with emotional punch and dramatic action. No word yet on whether the show has been renewed, but if it does get picked up, season two will definitely be an interesting and twisty ride.
