With “Agents of SHIELD” having announced its final season debuting in 2020, the cast of the beloved Marvel series talked to OMFGTV one last time to preview the series finale, offer their thoughts on the show’s journey and more.

Clark Gregg, who played Phil Coulson for the first five seasons and now plays Sarge, offered some hints as to how the series finale will tie everything together. “We kind of did our goodbye, our ending at the end of season five. We hadn’t heard if it was going to be picked up and that episode was called ‘The End.’ We’ve already done one kind of goodbye and a lot is going to happen in the final three episodes of season six, including a two-hour season finale, that is pretty mind blowing and explosive and really rips the entire rug of the first six seasons out from under people. The ending will be reflective of that.”

“It’s very interesting to be saying goodbye and to be putting on these costumes for the last time,” Gregg continued. “Especially for me, because I’ve been playing this guy for eleven years now, being dead and then coming back again and again. There was a lot of blood on the deck of the helicarrier that day. So to then come back and do 136 hours of television and have a team and a family and an incredible guest cast from Bill Paxton, whom we miss and love, and Ruth Negga and Kyle Maclachlan and the list goes on. They’re tearing down the building where we shoot. And our crew are going off to other jobs, so one day, the sound guy is gone. It’s like ‘Infinity War,’ people are disappearing and getting snapped away. There’s a lot of complicated feelings.”

Ming-Na Wen, who plays Melinda May, offered her thoughts on the evolution all the characters have gone through over the course of seven seasons. “Our writers, I don’t know how they do it. They come up with really fun and challenging things for us to do every single season.” Chloe Bennet also weighed in on her evolution from Skye to Daisy. “She kind of turned into the antithesis of who she was at the beginning of the show. I auditioned to play a hacker in a van and they were like, ‘Just kidding! You’re playing a superhero!'” “A lot of actors wouldn’t be able to handle that transition,” said Jeff Ward, who plays Deke. “For Chloe to shoulder so much of the show, I give a lot of credit to Chloe and I think a lot of the reason the show is as successful as it is is because of her.”

“The writers got to end the show properly,” Ward continued. “For the last two seasons, they were guiding it in toward the ending. A lot of people don’t ever get that, so that’s exciting.” “Everything kind of comes full circle,” said Natalia Cordova-Buckley (Elena “Yo-Yo” Rodriguez). “All the seasons, a lot that we’ve seen in past seasons come full circle. It’s hard to explain, because I can’t tell you anything, but a lot from the past of SHIELD comes into play.” “There could be people that we’ve seen before in season seven,” added Henry Simmons (Mack).

“Agents of SHIELD” airs Fridays on ABC.
