In part two of our Supergirl Comic-Con coverage, series stars Nicole Maines, Chyler Leigh, Mehcad Brooks, Azie Tesfai, Jesse Rath, David Harewood and Andrea Brooks spoke with PopWire to discuss all things Supergirl.
Mehcad Brooks began by addressing the recent news that season five will be his last on the show. “It’s tougher than I thought,” Mehcad said. “I’m going to cry at some point today, I can feel it. I’ve been on the show this whole time. I’ve been doing this since (Nicole Maines) was in diapers!” “So, a month ago?” Maines quipped.

Mehcad also discussed James’s sister Kelly dating Alex and how James will react to the news. “I’m a brother, so I think any older brother will be protective. But at the same time, Alex is family and I know her heart and what she wants. But, Alex, if you hurt my sister, I will kill you!”
Speaking of Alex, Chyler Leigh dived into the storyline last season of Alex’s failed attempt to adopt a child. “A big part of that was Alex taking that step of wanting a child,” Leigh began. “To not let life pass you by to quickly. When Maggie left, I really wanted to protect that storyline so that we weren’t diving into something too quickly, but still address the fact that that’s very much something that Alex wants.”

“I’ve had close friends of mine adopt and it took a couple of tries,” said Azie Tesfai. “I love that we’re exploring that. To show the pain of that is a story that not many people tell.” Leigh continued, “Since this all happens in one episode, how do we convey the fact that she’s so relieved that this is actually happening, but then there’s all this stuff that’s happening in the world, so this is a crazy time to have a baby? Kara’s advice was that it’s never a good time to have a baby, which I know because I have children. You can’t really prepare.”
The newly promoted- and newly pregnant- Andrea Brooks talked her character of Eve Tessmacher and her evolution. “She has to make some decisions. Is she going to double down, hide, run away or beg forgiveness? We’re going to dive into her history. She’s a enigma, she’s a complicated, complex character. I adore this character, it’s my favorite character I’ve ever played, but she probably should be in therapy!”

Jesse Rath, David Harewood and Nicole Maines were asked what their dream guest stars on the show would be. “I want Brent Spiner to play my father,” Rath said. “He was supposed to play the president last season, but it didn’t work out and I was kind of happy because there’s a bette role for him as Brainiac!” “I got my dream guest star, Carl Lumbly,” Harewood said.
“To have the voice of J’onn J’onzz as my father- we have J’onn J’onzz offs on the set!” Maines’s answer? “I want to see Kate Kane, Sara Lance, Nia Nal and Alex Danvers interact. I think that would be a cool gay power up!” Mehcad Brooks thought she said gay power album, an idea to which Maines was not opposed! “We could do a mixtape for the crossover!” Maines laughed.
Supergirl Season 5 premieres Sunday, October 6 at 9pm on The CW.
