Danielle Rose Russell, Matthew Davis & Rest of “Legacies” Cast Preview Season 2

Following the highly successful first season of The CW’s supernatural series, Legacies, the spinoff of The Vampire Diaries and The Originals took the stage at San Diego Comic-Con with its cast, creators and a surprise guest to discuss the highly anticipated second season slated to premiere this fall.

The panel was moderated by a face very familiar to fans of “The Vampire Diaries.” Candice King, who played Caroline Forbes on both “Diaries” and “The Originals,” arrived to a massive roar from the Comic Con crowd. She greeted the fans by saying, “I know there’s a question you want to ask, and the answer is yes. (Crowd cheers) I did get a haircut, thank you for noticing.”

King introduced the “Legacies” cast, Danielle Rose Russell, Matthew Davis, Kaylee Bryant, Jenny Boyd, Aria Shahghasemi, Peyton Alex Smith, and Quincy Fouse, as well as executive producers Julie Plec and Brett Matthews. She then got down to business discussing the shocking season finale with Hope Mikaelson essentially erasing herself from existence by leaping into the Malivore pit. “Hope’s goal is to get the hell out,” Plec said, also confiding that Malivore is by no means gone.

With Hope erased from everyone’s memories, that throws our remaining characters into new situations. Lizzie Saltzman, in Boyd’s words, will have “A semester of yes” without Hope in her life, while her father Alaric has been ostracized from the Salvatore School following the vote on his leadership last season. “Josie is definitely grounded!” Davis joked. “Alaric’s out of a job, he’s off growing a beard and maybe finding a new job at a different school.” Plec also confided that Alaric will have a new love interest in Mystic Falls’ new female sheriff, Mack, named after Marguerite McIntyre, who played Sheriff Forbes on “The Vampire Diaries.”

Boyd and Bryant talked the journey of their characters over the first season. “Josie went from not being codependent to just being a bitch,” Bryant said.

“I’d like to see her grow out of her shell a little more.” Boyd also disclosed that in season two, Lizzie will embark on a relationship with an “old school” vampire played by Thomas Doherty. “I’m not jealous at all, do your thing!” Fouse chimed in.

Smith discussed Rafael’s issues having been stuck in his werewolf form for an extended period of time. “Being isolated and feral for a few days, let alone a few months, what does that do to your psyche? How do you go back to normal life after that?” Smith said. Shahghasemi also delved into Landon’s journey in season one. “All he ever wanted was answers about his family. What do you say to your father when your father is made of mud?”

Russell talked her thoughts on Hope’s journey in season one. “Everyone has feelings for Hope, which I don’t get because she’s not that nice!” Russell said. “She isolates herself and pushes people away because she doesn’t want to get too close to people. But now, she’s been isolated for a whole summer and she’ll return to a world where no one remembers that she existed.”

When asked if Caroline would ever finally appear on “Legacies,” Plec simply said, “We shall see,” while also adding that she’d love to see other “Vampire Diaries” and “Originals” characters cameo on the show. “I will give you all Chris Wood’s phone number right now so you can start a fan campaign to bring him back!”

Legacies Season 2 premieres Thursday, October 10 at 9pm on The CW.
