OMFGTV had the opportunity to speak with the cast of Syfy’s Van Helsing at San Diego Comic Con to learn about their upcoming season, and the cast shared quite a bit! Between backstory and epic fights, the shows sophomore season sounds like it’ll be a hit!
“Everyone gets an origin story.” | While talking about his character Julius, Aleks Paunovic spilled that each character will get a backstory, including Julius. “People will get to see why Julius is the way he is.” Later, executive producers of the show Michael Frislev and Chad Oaks confirmed that several characters will be getting backstory further explaining why they are the way they are.
Julius and Sam Will Fight it Out | “Sam and I [Julius] get together for an epic scrap!” Fans are very eager to see how everything plays out between Sam and Julius, and Paunovic shared that they will indeed fight! Sam killed Julius’s mother, who was his rock. “You’re gonna get to see how in depth that relationship is in season 2, and how far Julius is gonna go.”

Scarlett Was Raised For This | Missy Peregrym was very excited to share about her badass character Scarlett Harker. “She grew up in a family that believed that The Rising was gonna happen.” She was being trained as a teenager to hunt and kill vampires, so she’s got an edge on everyone else. But because she’s been raised with this kind of thing, she has a “lightness” about it and doesn’t take everything so seriously. Peregrym also describes Scarlett as a “lone wolf” who doesn’t easily trust others, but she’s heard of Vanessa and wants to check her out. Oh yeah, Scarlett also wields two swords, so she’s super badass.
Doc Learns to “step up” | When we last see Doc in season 1, she’s all alone. Rukiya Bernard is very satisfied with Doc’s development this season, and attributes it to the fact that she is left alone with nothing but her guilt. “Doc is just really riddled with survivors guilt. She knows she messed up big time and she’s dealing with that. But at the same time, she’s on her own.” Bernard also teased that Dmitri has a secret goal this season, and that the humans will slowly piece it together.
Dmitri Sets His Sights on Domination | Paul Johanson teased the same secret goal Dmitri is striving for, saying that some vampires know about it and the humans learn about it, “then there’s a race to get there. And whoever gets there first will have real domination.”
Axel Fights His Instincts | Axel has become the thing he truly despises, a vampire. Jonathan Scarfe says Axel is still enough of himself “determined to fight against it.” Axel is still very much about his mission, which involved Vanessa and her daughter. But since he is a vampire, he does have to feed. How will he handle that?
There Is No Time Jump | According to Michael Frislev and Chad Oaks, the season premiere picks up exactly where season 1 left off. “The Resistance is attacking The Citadel, and Vanessa is confronting Rebecca and discovering her daughter’s a vampire.”
Van Helsing Season 2 premieres October 5 at 9pm on Syfy.
