When OMFGTV sat down with Riverdale stars Lili Reinhart and Camila Mendes this past summer, the two teased that Betty’s storyline in the new season is very much involved in the thick of the mystery.
In the latest episode of The CW hit series, the youngest Cooper sister received a letter from the mysterious Black Hood — and at the end of the episode, a phone call.
Speaking with Lili Reinhart, she talks about her character getting wrapped up in something she never asked to be a part of, taking a toll on her, just like how it did with Cheryl in Season 1.
“Betty’s speech at the end in the finale has inspired and is an inspiration for the mystery in Season 2,” Reinhart tells us. “Betty’s really pushed to her limits in Season 2 and you see a whole new side — broken down, very raw, just broken girl.

“It’s heartbreaking to see that happen to a character you love, but it’s also just creates a three dimensional girl in this modern world. And even though it’s an elaborate, unreal circumstance, this mystery, it makes you feel for Betty even though hopefully you already do.”
On the discussion of tonight’s all-new episode, “Chapter Eighteen: When A Stranger Calls,” Camila Mendes shares “there’s some exciting stuff,” but also adds there’s some conflict coming up between Betty and Veronica.
“There’s a little bit of conflict, but it’s not what you think,” Mendes previews. “It’s coming from a really loving and protective place, but it’s really juicy. Betty has a secret and for various reasons can’t share that secret with Veronica.”
Adds Reinhart, “You kind of realize when Betty and Veronica have a conflict how much you care about them being together, even if there aren’t an abundance of Betty and Veronica scenes, if there’s a conflict between them, you just feel like something’s not right. You need to keep these girls together. They’re best friends.”
Will Betty reveal her secret connection to the Black Hood to Veronica? We will have to tune in and find out.
