Scream Queens Recap: Hair Today, Dead Tomorrow
FOX’s horror-comedy Scream Queens returned for another bloody season tonight with a whole new location, an all-new murder mystery and fresh, new faces. The premiere did feel like a big departure from the bright and bubbly first season. The scares were scarce but the humor we love is still there. Here’s what happened in “Scream Again.”
NEW BEGINNINGS | After years in the spotlight following the Wallace University murders and appearing on numerous magazine covers, Cathy Munsch (Jamie Lee Curtis) opens up a hospital where she plans to cure the uncurable. She recruits Zayday Williams (Keke Palmer) and the Chanels (Emma Roberts, Billie Lourde, Abigail Breslin) and along with Dr. Brock Holt (John Stamos) and Dr. Cassidy Cascade (Taylor Lautner) they work alongside each other to cure diseases other hospitals could not.
OH, HAIR NO! | CURE’s flagship patient, Katherine Hobart (Cecily Strong), has a rare disease that has her body covered in hair. Seconds prior to Katherine’s experimental surgery, Dr. Holt and Chanel storm in with an idea for a cure that doesn’t require her to go under the knife. The medical plan works, but with one drawback– her entire body is now rid of hair. A better situation if you ask me, but Katherine is not pleased.
PRETTY WOMAN | Chanel comes up with the idea of giving Katherine a makeover (of course) and the patient is the happiest she’s ever been! That feeling, however, is gone later that night when she and Chanel #5 (Breslin) head for a scalding hot water bath treatment. While securely locked in the tubs, a green-costumed killer approaches and beheads her, making her the first victim of the season.
Other Tidbits:
• We’re loving Kirstie Alley as Nurse Ingrid Hoffel! Wonder why Munsch wants her to give the Chanels a hard time.
• Dr. Brock’s transplanted hand seemingly has a life of its own. Could he be the killer?
• As Zayday found out, Dr. Cascade is icy cold. What could his secret be?
• The Netflix documentary series about the Chanels, “Entrap A Kappa Kappa: Murder on Sorority Row,” looks to be inspired by the streaming service’s hit docuseries “Making A Murderer.” We loved the vintage look of the footage and the return of our favorite character, Denise Hemphill (Niecy Nash)!
A lot went down on the season premiere. Did you feel a bit underwhelmed as we were? What were your favorite parts? Let us know in the comments below!
Scream Queens airs Tuesdays at 9pm on FOX.
