Just when you thought “Runaways” couldn’t possibly change the game any more, here comes the season’s penultimate episode, “Earth Angel.” Karolina leads a recuse mission for Leslie, who is trying to expose her duplicitous husband. Chase adjusts to his new situation with his parents.
Breakout Queens | After finding out that Leslie is at the detention center for the church, Karolina is hellbent on rescuing her. She, Nico and Molly team up with Vaughan, Leslie’s assistant from the church, to trick him into taking them to the facility. Karolina asks Nico to take the Staff, which Nico reluctantly does, having buried it after it controlled her.

Lying Runs in the Family | Leslie confronts Frank at the facility and reveals to him that she’s pregnant even though the baby probably isn’t his. She agrees to a paternity test so long as he treats her better.
As Frank reads the inconclusive results, Karolina tries to convince him to let Leslie go, but Frank doesn’t fall for it, locking her in a shed where she can’t use her powers.
Meanwhile, Victor gives Chase a job at Pride’s offices to try to prove to him that Pride isn’t just a murder cult. By episode’s end, the Pride board offers Chase a seat on the board so he can turn the organization into a force for good, which he agrees to.
Rise and Fall | Back at the facility, Susan finally has a change of heart and frees Leslie and Karolina, finally meeting her granddaughter. As they try to walk out the front gate, the church security arrives to bust them under Frank’s orders, until Karolina shows off her glow and flies above them. She orders the awestruck worshippers to turn on Frank, which they do, locking him in the shed. Susan, after seeing Karolina glow, realizes that the church wasn’t entirely wrong about their beliefs and stays behind to rebuild the church into a better one.
Karolina takes Leslie back to the Hostel and the group agrees to let her stay, especially after she says she’s pregnant. That night, Karolina is visited by Gert, who acts quite weird, until transforming into Xavin, who announces herself as Karolina’s betrothed. Can you say, “Three’s a crowd?”
“Runaways” season 2 is now streaming on Hulu.
