“Runaways” Recap: Not the One

The second season of “Runaways” continues in “Double Zeros,” as Alex faces yet another betrayal, while Nico trains the Runaways to fight back. Catherine is willing to do whatever it takes to bring Alex home, while an unexpected new player enters the fray.

That’s How It’s Done | Following the battle with Tina, Nico assembles the squad to practice using their powers as a team so they can put up a fight. Karolina flies around, Chase sets a dummy on fire with his Fistigons and Nico discovers that she can’t use the same spell with the Staff of One more than once.

Meanwhile, Alex continues to get close to Livvie, and I mean really close. Unfortunately, this is perfectly timed with Darius striking a deal with Geoffrey to hand Alex over to him. But Catherine tells Geoffrey that unless they can clear Alex of Destiny’s false murder charge, Alex can’t come home.

Breakout Kings | Darius takes Alex out for an “assignment,” only for him to deliver him straight to Geoffrey. Geoffrey gives Darius a huge envelope full of money and a fancy hotel room to hide out in to make them even.

As Geoffrey is driving away with Alex, Alex contacts Nico on a burner phone to alert her to his situation. Nico and the team manage to ambush Geoffrey at an airport and break Alex out.

Who Run the World? | But not everyone gets a happy ending this episode: Darius arrives at the hotel to find Catherine waiting there against Geoffrey’s wishes and she flat out executes him in the room, framing him for Destiny’s murder. And to add insult to injury, Darius’s pregnant wife arrives to find his body. Yikes!

Geoffrey is naturally angry at Catherine for killing his friend, but Catherine points out that with Destiny’s murder “cleared,” their kids are now free to come home. Of course, Alex hears about Darius’s death on the radio and is furious about that, so way to backfire! Elsewhere, Janet talks to Victor in the virtual diner and he now has a new lease on life after getting shot and appreciates her a lot more. She manages to talk him into helping her decode the Abstract, the ancient book written in Jonah’s alien language.

Molly once again goes out to rough up some criminals and tosses a car over to scare them off. But some mysterious figure watches her do this and follows her back to the Hostel. And his name should ring a bell with “Runaways” comic fans: Topher.

“Runaways” season two is now streaming on Hulu.
