The season 2 premiere of ABC’s hit drama Quantico left viewers with an abundance of new information. We know Alex Parrish (Priyanka Chopra) is still working for the FBI, and she is under assignment with her romantic partner Ryan Booth (Jake McLaughlin) in the CIA. One Year later we know terrorists are holding several world leaders (including the President of the United States) and FBI/CIA agents hostage in New York City. The hostages are desperate for a way out, and Alex Parrish may be their only hope. Episode 2 continues where the first ended; we see her sneak into the building where the hostages are being kept and try to save the day once again.
“You may be on the same mission, but you are not on the same team.” | The Farm story line begins with Miranda (Aunjanue Ellis) laying down the law to Alex and Ryan. She reminds them they need to take care of themselves and not each other, and assigns them both to build profiles on everyone at The Farm. Their meeting with Miranda caused them to be late to their first required yoga class and Lydia (Tracy Ifeachor) is not pleased.
Later on in class the recruits learn their assignment of the day is Surveillance Detection Routes (aka SDRs). They learn the formation of “the box”, which is made up by the 4 eyes and the trigger, all hunting the rabbit, and are told to practice in the neighborhood. Owen warns the recruits that the civilians like to play spot-the-spy, if they get spotted they are out of the program.
After class Dayana (Pearl Thusi) is on the phone (again) when she is approached by Lydia. Lydia tells Dayana that she believes in her, that she has real potential, but she needs to keep her eyes up. As Lydia leaves Dayana, Alex approaches and tries to talk to Lydia, who effectively ignores her. Harry (Russell Tovey) approaches Alex and invites her to join him for a drink, she accepts the invitation. Meanwhile, Ryan and his team of recruits receive their target for the SDR assignment, Alex.
Out in the town, Alex notices Ryan and three others following her and alerts Harry. They decide to split up and lose their pursuers while also trying to identify the trigger. Alex soon finds out that Harry was actually the trigger all along, so she failed her assignment. Lucky for Alex, Dayana messed up even worse by answering her phone during the mission, so she is now at the bottom of the Murder Board.
At the end of The Farm story line this week, we see Alex and Ryan receive their handlers. Alex was assigned her BFF Shelby Haas (Johanna Braddy) and Ryan is assigned his friend Nimah Amin (Yasmine Al Massri).
1 Year Later | The terrorists are fitting the hostages with choke wires, rigged to tighten if they need to be. Raina (Yasmine Al Massri) and Ryan notice several CIA agents from The Farm, but they don’t know why they are there. Meanwhile, Alex is down below the building struggling to find a way to get in contact with the FBI when she stumbles from the police officer from the perimeter earlier. He has been shot, but can walk with her help. He tells her there is an old NYPD emergency bunker down there and he can take her to it. They carefully evade pursuing terrorists and get to the bunker, but the terrorists are hot on their trail. The officer opens the bunker, throws Alex in, and sacrifices himself to the terrorists in order for Alex to survive.
“Why didn’t they kill me? They should have killed me.” | Up above ground Ryan and Raina try to outsmart the terrorists, but Raina gets caught. She is very surprised when they don’t kill her.
Alex does not let his sacrifice go in vain, she uses the phone inside the bunker to call Miranda. She tells Miranda where she is at and what she knows, but Miranda seems to be acting very strange when she receives this news. Instead of alerting her superiors to the information Alex just bestowed to her, she keeps the information private. Then she uses a satellite phone to alert one of the terrorists inside the building that Alex is there.
What did you think of this roller coaster of an episode? It definitely leaves you with a lot of questions. Does Lydia actually like Alex now that Dayana has let her down? Was Shelby spying on Alex, or was she just concerned about her friend? And the biggest question of all, what is going on with Miranda?!? Did the death of her son cause her to turn on the FBI, or does she have someone working on the inside?
To get the answers to these questions and more, be sure to watch Quantico Sundays at 10 pm on ABC.
