Oxygen Premieres “Ana Maria in Novela Land”

Oxygen Media presents the television premiere of FLUENCY’s critically-acclaimed romantic comedy “Ana Maria in Novela Land” on Saturday, May 2 at 8pm ET/PT. The bilingual film is the story of one young woman’s struggle to find herself after being yanked out of her self-absorbed fandom of her favorite telenovela.

After getting fired from her job, bailing on her best friend and blowing off her sister’s bridal fitting, Ana Maria is deemed a disappointment by everyone, especially her family. Ana Maria is so oblivious to the world that she walks right past a charming, handsome doctor. Instead, she seeks solace from her latest TV obsession— the steamy and scandalous novela, Pasión Sin Limites (Passion Without Limits).

Pasión Sin Limites own protagonist, the arrogant and melodramatic Ariana Tomosa, is also having a bad day after being trapped in a love triangle. As Ana Maria and Ariana reach their lowest moment of self-pity simultaneously… lighting strikes. Ana Maria wakes up inside the Mexican telenovela, while Ariana finds herself in modern day LA. Thinking it’s only a dream, Ana Maria lives out all her fangirl fantasies while Ariana struggles to understand her new found surroundings and the harsh realities of urban living. As each of these women navigate their new lives, they come to the realization that love and true faith in themselves is all they really need to have the life they dreamed of.

Ana Maria in Novela Land” stars a group of seasoned and up-and-coming performers led by Edy Ganem (“Devious Maids”), in a breakout, dual role as both Ana Maria and Ariana Tomosa; Michael Steger (“90210”) as Tony, the love-struck doctor next door, and as Armando, the playboy son of Ariana’s wealthy fiancé; Luis Guzmán (“Boogie Nights”) as Schmidt, the scheming lawyer who wants to bring Ana Maria down; Nestor Serrano, Ana Maria’s patient father who adores her no matter what; newcomer Carla Morrison (Latin Grammy winning Singer/Songwriter) as Laura, Ana Maria’s no-nonsense best friend; and the late Elizabeth Peña as Ana Maria’s well-intentioned, but hard-edged mother. This movie sadly marked her last film.

Ana Maria in Novela Land airs tonight at 8pm on Oxygen.
