These days, it’s almost impossible to go through a book, a movie, or a TV show without running into some kind of love triangle. It’s all the rage these days! The most popular love triangle on The CW, is by far The Vampire Diaries’ Damon, Stefan and Elena — three vampires who just can’t keep their hands off of each other.
For years, fans from both camps — Team Damon and Team Stefan — rooted for their respective brother to be the true love of Ms. Elena Gilbert; and with Diaries’ new spin-off series, The Originals, coming soon to The CW, we just may have another love triangle to obsess over.
At the center of the possible love triangle is Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin), the werewolf trying to find her family after being abandoned as a young child. The male prospects — just like The Vampire Diaries — are brothers, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Elijah Mikaelson (Daniel Gillies). To make things even more interesting is the fact that Hayley is carrying the child of the former, and with he being too occupied with trying to reclaim New Orleans as ruler, her eyes may be set on his doting brother, Elijah, who will stop at nothing to make sure the expectant mother is not in harms way.
OMFGtv chatted with The Originals’ beauty, Phoebe Tonkin, this past July and talked about the relationships between the two brothers.
“It’s always going to be triangles,” she tells us. “I think what’s going to be really interesting is the dynamic between Klaus and Hayley because I don’t think it’s a romantic one; I think it’s going to be protective. They need to protect each other. They need to protect their unborn child. I think that relationship and dynamic is going to be really interesting.”
As for Elijah, Tonkin says of his character that he “is such a gentleman,” and adds that “he’s so passionate about protecting his family. So that would be an interesting uncle of child relationship.”
One character we probably won’t see Hayley romantically entangled with is of the Mikaelson sister, Rebekah, played by Tonkin’s real-life best friend and former H2O: Just Add Water co-star, Claire Holt. “I’m excited that Rebekah is going to be an auntie,” she gushes. “It’s very exciting!”
Though the pair were last seen on The Vampire Diaries, they did not share any scenes together. On The Originals, however, the two will definitely be sharing screen time. “We have a scene [coming] soon,” she teases. “It’s going to be really funny. I think the audience is going to be like ‘Yeah, this is what we’ve been waiting for!'”
The Originals premieres this fall on The CW.
