Originals’ Joseph Morgan Talks Klaus’ Priorities

The Original hybrid, Klaus Mikaelson, will have a lot on his plate when he returns back home to New Orleans in The CW’s much anticipated series, The Originals, a spin-off of the network’s hit drama, The Vampire Diaries. Not only will Klaus try to reclaim the throne as king and ruler of the city, but he’s also got baby-mamma drama on the side. Little did he know that his little liquor-fueled rendezvous with werewolf Hayley would result in him fathering a child.

OMFGtv had the chance to sit down with The Originals star in July during the San Diego Comic-Con and we, along with several other reporters, grilled him about what’s to come.

Between regaining control of the city he once called home and helping with out with Hayley’s pregnancy, surely the latter is of more importance. Unfortunately for the expectant mother, Klaus’ priorities aren’t what they should be. “I think he’s absolutely more concerned about becoming king,” Morgan tells us. “He’s for whatever will make him the most powerful. So he’s really 100% behind that.”

Joseph also admits that while he doesn’t know what will happen with the baby, he would like for his character to get behind the idea a little more. “I think there’s something so appealing to me about playing this monster that has this tiny little baby that he cares more about than anything in the world,” he continues, “but right now he’s all about the throne.”

Charles Michael Davis revealed to us earlier that his character, Marcel, will start to realize little by little of Klaus’ plan to dethrone him, but because of the pairs strong history, which will be revealed in flashbacks, we “absolutely will” see remorse from Klaus. “From what I’ve read so far and my suspicions about the relationship, [Klaus is] a little torn because Marcel meant a lot to [him] back in the day; which in fact you can draw a parallel with the relationship he had with Stefan in Chicago.”

“Stefan was more of a brother and Marcel, I think, in a way started out as more of a son to Klaus,” he adds. “So he’s absolutely torn. But he’s also insulted by the way Marcel thinks he can run things now. He is very needy, Klaus. He needs to be paid the right respect he feels he is due.”

The Originals premieres this fall on The CW.
