In the first season of The CW’s hit supernatural series and Vampire Diaries‘ spin-off The Originals, Davina had been tossed around a lot. She became the pawn in a big game that she had no control over.
When we met up with the young actress who plays her, Danielle Campbell, at the San Diego Comic-Con, she tells us that that Davina is long gone.
“She’s grown up a lot,” she tells OMFGTV “She’s a lot stronger now. She’s taking her own position on everything and she’s looking for revenge. A new character comes in and she’s smitten with him. His name is Kaleb and that adds another spin on things as well.”
As for working with the Mikaelson patriarch, Mikael, Campbell finds their alliance exciting and amusing. “Mikael’s been a feared character throughout The Vampire Diaries and The Originals. We know it’s the one person that Klaus is afraid of and Davina has a hold on Mikael that no one else does. They have quite awesome banter. I think people are going to like their relationship.”
On working with Sebastian Roché, who plays Mikael, she says that he is a blast to work with. “We have so many scenes together so I know him very, very well. He’s one of the most fun people and he’s done so much and I’ve learned so much from him and he’s one of the most fascinating people to me and one of the most sweet people I’ve ever met. So I’m really honored to be working with him.”
Davina being a strong and powerful witch on the show is pretty awesome, and Campbell says that playing this type of character is quite amazing. “To be such a strong female character lead is one of the greatest things. The cool thing about Davina is she’s kind of had a lot of arc which has helped me as an actress to play different roles and circumstances because she’s been weak, she’s been dying, shes lost her true love. She’s had all these huge emotional things she’s had to go through, so playing that as an actress has been really beneficial for me.”
Coming up for Davina in Season 2 is a new love interest in the form of Teen Wolf‘s Daniel Sharman who comes on to play bad boy Kaleb whom Davina becomes smitten with. But is he a vampire, werewolf, witch, or anything else supernatural? Campbell teases, “You’ll have to watch.”
The Originals Season 2 airs this fall on The CW.
