“The Originals: The Complete Second Season” Now Available to Own on Blu-Ray & DVD
SAVING HOPE | The second season of The CW’s addictive, blood-thirsty drama was all about keeping Hayley’s new-born daughter Hope safe and that the fact she is still alive, a well-guarded secret.
While half of the Mikaelson’s and their group of friends rallied together to keep Hope off the grid, the other half had different plans. Hayley’s feelings for Elijah were put aside as she married another — Jackson, a werewolf Alpha — whose ceremony would bind both the new mother and Jackson’s powers to control when they shift, and become a stronger pack to help protect Hope.
After a lot of bloodshed, the most feared witch of all, Dahlia, drops into town to collect what she believes is rightfully hers, Klaus’ and Hayley’s first born. Elsewhere in the season, unlikely alliances are formed, and a beautiful pairing forms where the only thing taboo about their relationship is not that they’re both men, but that one is a vampire and the other is a werewolf.
THE FAMILY THAT PRAYS TOGETHER SLAYS TOGETHER | Season 2 brings back the Mikaelson family like never before. Klaus and Rebekah are reunited with their siblings Finn, Kol and Freya, as well as their parents Mikael and Esther, Klaus’ biological father Ansel, and their terrifying aunt Dahlia. Not everyone return in their original form, however, because some their bodies have been long decomposed.
The whole whole body transferring plot device is completely genius in regards to the Rebekah character. With her portrayer Claire Holt’s much publicized departure from the show, the body jumping made it possible for the Rebekah character to remain on the show without the actress who originated the role.
While the season as a whole is intensely satisfying enough, it is the final two episodes that take this chapter to a whole other level. Its fast-paced story-telling and escalated drama takes it right over the edge causing viewers to dare not take their eyes off the screen for a second.
Season two also features some of the best guest stars to date, with FANTASTIC performances from Sonja Sohn (Lenore/Esther 2.0), Maisie Richardson-Sellers (Eva/Rebekah 2.0), and most importantly Claudia Black (Dahlia). Not all three of them survive the season, unfortunately, but the one that does is most definitely a welcome addition to the Originals clan.
