“The Originals” Recap: Back to Mystic Falls

“The Originals” returns to its “Vampire Diaries” roots in its emotional penultimate episode, “The Tale of Two Wolves.” Klaus prepares to save the dying Hope by any means necessary, while Elijah decides to show Hope the best he has to offer. Klaus and Caroline have a bittersweet reunion, which is unexpectedly interrupted by an old friend.

You Can Never Go Home Again | Klaus and Elijah take the dying Hope back to Mystic Falls where we get tons of Easter Eggs- Matt Donavan has a bench in his honor, Elena Salvatore has a medical practice and of course, Klaus and Caroline reunite, again. This time, however, it’s under much more dire circumstances. Knowing that the Hollow will destroy hope by sundown, Klaus asks Caroline to ask her twins, Josie and Lizzie, to pull the Hollow out of Hope and put it all in him. To make sure the Hollow is gone for good, Klaus gives Caroline the last white oak stake in the world and tasks her with killing him once and for all to save his daughter.

The Miracle | Elijah tries to make amends with Hope by taking for a day on the town, where Hope bonds with Landon, a waiter at a grill, where he gets bullied by the jocks. After leaving Landon a big ass tip, Elijah takes Hope to the jocks’ car and tells her to go to town. She trashes the car with her magic, but passes out after.

Always Another Way | Before Klaus can explain to Josie and Lizzie how they’ll save Hope, Alaric shoots Klaus in the chest with a crossbow. He tries to talk Caroline out of using their daughters, maybe call Bonnie instead, but she stands her ground and talks him into it. Hope, meanwhile, briefly goes into the afterlife and sees Hayley with Jackson and her parents. Hope wants to stay with her mom, but Hayley tells Hope that she’s at peace and she wants Hope to live her life.

Crying yet? Just wait, there’s more…

Hope wakes up and dances with Landon in the town square, as Klaus watches. Caroline tells Klaus that he was never the villain of her story and they come an inch apart from kissing, but are interrupted. As Klaus prepares Hope for the full moon, Elijah finds out about Klaus’s plans and offers to die in his place, but Klaus knocks him out. Hope becomes a werewolf and Josie and Lizzie pull the Hollow out of her as she runs off as a wolf. They put it into Klaus and Elijah tries to stop him from killing himself, but the episode ends before Klaus can.

Are we okay?

Tune in next week for the series finale of “The Originals.” There will be tears.
