“The Originals” Recap: The Beginning of the End

“The Originals” kicks off its final season in typical “Originals” fashion: With blood, romance and family drama. “Where You Left Your Heart” jumped forward seven years, where Hope is desperate to see her father, Freya must make a difficult decision, and Klaus receives advice from a familiar face.

Long Distance Relationships | First up, a now teenage Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) gets in trouble at the Salvatore School when she gives her blood to a werewolf named Henry to make him a hybrid. Hope gets kicked out of school and is sent to New Orleans, where Hayley is pissed at her, which interrupts her date with a human named Declan. And that’s not the only romantic drama this week. In other news, water is wet.

In New York City, Marcel finally proposes to Rebekah, who is hesitant to accept. Meanwhile, Keelin is helping people in Lebanon and asks Freya to come visit her, giving Freya an equally juicy dilemma. The good news is that Kol and Davina are happily married, although Davina was unseen on FaceTime. Hopefully, we will see our favorite teen witch before the series ends.

The Rule of Threes | Klaus is being, well, Klaus, as he murders his way through France, occasionally visiting the memory wiped Elijah at his bar. Every time he gets close to Elijah, the flowers die and the water nearby turns red.

This extends not only to Rebekah’s bathtub, but to New Orleans as well, prompting Vincent to point out to Freya that bad things come in threes.

Hello, Love | Marcel gives Rebekah an ultimatum: Either show up at the courthouse for their wedding, or leave. Hayley texts Rebekah to get Klaus to talk some sense into Hope, especially after Henry kills a poor vampire bartender and appears to be sired to Hope. Rebekah calls- wait for it- Caroline (Candice King), who gives him a pep talk, telling him that he can be a better father than Mikael.

Freya is ready to leave for Lebanon, when Hayley mysteriously gets knocked out and disappears in the alley. Also, it starts raining blood in New Orleans. Never good. Rebekah breaks it off with Marcel and goes to see Elijah, while Klaus calls Hayley’s phone and Hope picks up and tells him that Hayley is missing. Klaus: “I’m on my way.”
