“The Originals” Episode Review: The Search for Hope

If you somehow survived “The Originals’s” fourth season finale, “The Feast of All Sinners,” you have my congratulations. This grueling finale forced the Mikaelsons to make the ultimate sacrifice to save Hope from being possessed forever by the Hollow.

After four seasons, the Original family of vampires is now and forever (?) over. Vincent finds one last spell that would split the Hollow into four souls, leaving Klaus, Elijah, Rebekah and Kol to play host to the Hollow at the price of leaving Hope forever in fear of the spirit wanting her back.

The Mikaelsons all go their separate ways as Kol proposes to Davina, Marcel and Rebekah get together and Hayley enrolls Hope in Alaric’s school in Mystic Falls. All seems relatively normal for an “Originals” cliffhanger- until Elijah asks Marcel to compel him to forget his family forever, leading to the heartbreaking yet bittersweet moment of Klaus seeing Elijah in a bar and Elijah not recognizing him. (I’m tearing up as I write this, by the way.)

With an ending like that, it’s hard to come back from something that emotional. So let’s end the season by saying that “The Feast of All Sinners” was a fully realized finale that accomplished an ending- of sorts, seeing as the show was renewed- for the characters we’ve come to know for the last four years.
