“I Hear You Knocking” was just good old fashioned Mikaelson family fun. First up, Klaus hallucinates Mikael, who drives him to killing a few bystanders and even briefly tricking him into thinking he killed Freya. This gave the episode an unpredictable feeling and played up some serious mind games. Klaus and Marcel also had a cool fight scene, which ended when Klaus decided to spare Marcel and lock him up in the cellar. Did Klaus spare Marcel for noble reasons, or is he playing a scheme to defeat the Hollow? TBD, but Elijah had a cool confrontation with Marcel in one of Elijah’s coolest moments.

Also, Hayley found out that her parents’ deaths were orchestrated by the Hollow for some nefarious, unknown reason. Why does the Hollow want the Lebonairs wiped out? What does it want with Hope? TBD, again, but Marcel’s new girlfriend seems to be behind it to get revenge on Klaus.

And Freya and Keelin bond some more, including Keelin refusing to bail out on Freya after her obligation was fulfilled. Could this be because she’s crushing on our favorite witch?

“I Hear You Knocking” was a blast of an episode, with mind games, violence, plot twists and general intensity. Welcome back to New Orleans, Mikaelsons, we missed you too.

“The Originals” airs Fridays on The CW.
