It’s the beginning of the end of The Nevers in its antepenultimate episode, “Alright, Okay, You Win.” Following last episode’s ambiguous ending, this one has a LOT of questions to answer, so let’s not waste any time!
Dreams | Cousens (Zackary Momoh) wakes up in the middle of the night and finds that his young son is missing and hiding in a cabinet. His son is drawing scenes from Cousens’s dreams, as well as the dreams of everyone else, since he is Touched. One drawing, the son claims, is of the man who is coming for them. In the river where Amalia (Laura Donnelly) and Maladie (Amy Manson) fell into last episode, only Maladie emerges onto the shore. She walks through the streets and sneaks into an apartment, while Augustus (Tom Riley) walks home and wonders if Lavinia is still alive.
Cousens confronts his wife about keeping his son’s abilities from him, but she fires back, saying that she’s known via these dreams that he’s been sleeping with Amalia. Hugo (James Norton) shows up on Mundi’s (Ben Chaplin) doorstep and announces that he wants to help take down Massen (Pip Torrens) and Mundi tells him that Massen killed Mary. Back with Maladie, the apartment she entered turns out to be her old apartment and someone walks in and sees her and hugs her out of relief, recognizing her as Sarah.
Hello, Mother | As Penance (Ann Skelly) searches for Amalia, Augustus turns up and announces that he is taking charge of Lavinia’s fundraiser for the orphanage- before finally kissing her. As they kiss, they bump into the apparatus she built to track the mystery caller and it lights up and takes control of Penance’s gadgets, but she doesn’t notice this. Soon after, as Hague (Denis O’Hare) is walking through the streets, someone flags him down and says that he has a phone call. It’s the mystery voice and Hague claims that it’s his mother- and she says that she found it and needs one last thing.

After Myrtle (Viola Prettejohn) storms out of the orphanage, Maladie seems all well and good in her apartment with the man who turns out to be Sarah’s husband. At least, until she drops a plate and he slaps her in the face and acts like nothing happened. Back at the orphanage, Bonfire Annie (Rochelle Neil) learns that Massen’s bill to outlaw the Touched from gathering will be voted on soon. Cousens sees a puppeteer performing a show on the street corner and he matches the description from his son’s drawing.
As Augustus and Penance return to the Bidlow mansion, they find Lavinia (Olivia Williams) there, having crawled out of the tunnels. She acts like nothing is wrong, but offers to give Penance something nice to wear. Maladie sneaks into her husband’s office and finds letters from Hague, proving that he sent her to the mental hospital. He seems sorry for it, but then grabs a letter opener and slices her hand with it.
An Unwelcome Guest | Penance, Augustus and Lavinia are at a very tense lunch, when Augustus stands up to her and announces that he’s taking control of the estate and the orphanage, much to her shock. To make matters worse, Hague arrives and Lavinia makes him sit down next to Penance. Lavinia then excuses herself to meet Massen and promises him evidence that could sway the vote on his bill in his favor, which ends up being photographs of the orb holding the alien. At the dinner, Hague reveals to Penance his true identity and offers to tell her the truth about the voice if he leaves with her- which she shockingly does.
Cousens follows the puppeteer into a bar, where the Beggar King (Nick Frost) and Bessie (Emma Tracey) show up and start talking about their plans. As he leaves, one of the men tries to kill him and Cousens puts his hands on him and uses his powers to make his face rip apart, which the Beggar King sees. Maladie goes to bed with her husband, but turns the tables on him and smothers him to death with the pillow.
Hugo and Mundi arrive at Massen’s estate with the plan to confront him, as Hugo distracts his staff and Mundi sneaks into Massen’s home. As Hugo talks, he hears Massen’s daughter banging on the door, but Massen’s housekeeper gives him the key to free her and Hugo sees the daughter with horns growing from her head. Following the dinner at the Bidlow’s, Lavinia calls a carriage of men that wrap Augustus up in a straight jacket and haul him off. Then, Amalia crawls out of the river and makes her way into a bar, where someone slides her a glass. That someone is actually the future Stripe (Claudia Black) who tells her that she’ll need it as there is one more Amalia sitting down in the bar! Okay…?
