This latest episode of The Nevers gives fans a LOT to chew on with a crazy cliffhanger in “Fever,” which sees the aftermath of Lavinia’s attempt to kill the alien, leading to shocking revelations.
Family Matters | A flashback takes us to Lavinia and Augustus as children as he shows her his aviary- which is full of the corpses of dead birds! Lavinia immediately burns it down, as we cut to present day, where Lavinia (Olivia Williams) is buried under rubble and Augustus (Tom Riley) tries to free her. On the other side of the cave in, Amalia (Laura Donnelly) and Penance (Ann Skelly) get separated, but Amalia sees a string of lights inside the walls and follows it. Massen (Pip Torrens) hears the cries coming from the locked door and grabs a shotgun to kill his daughter inside, but changes his mind after he hears her crying. He tells her that she could never survive outside his home, but she smashes part of the door when she hears this.
Hugo (James Norton) is told that his father is dying and is asking for him, but he refuses to see him. Mundi (Ben Chaplin) gets files on Mary’s murder from the chief and tells him that Massen was behind it. Amalia follows the lights and finds Lucy (Elizabeth Berrington) barely alive, who tells Amalia that the alien sang to her before she dies. Penance arrives and sees this and Amalia orders her to follow her through the tunnel. Augustus wheels Lavinia into the tunnel, where he sees a series of hooks that he realizes are for the alien. He refuses to take her any further until she tells him the truth, but she ignores him and tries to leave, but her wheelchair falls over.

Fight Fire With Fire | Back at the orphanage, Bonfire (Rochelle Neil) rallies the Touched inside to fight against the anti-Touched riots outside. Speaking of riots, the Beggar King (Nick Frost) speaks to Bessie (Emma Tracey), the girl whose friend was killed by Myrtle, and she offers to join his riot. Augustus demands answers from Lavinia, but she fires back by revealing that she’s always known he was Touched and resents the aliens for giving him his powers. Mundi goes to see Hugo and asks him to arrange a meeting with Massen, but Hugo refuses, while Massen orders his housekeeper to poison his daughter.
Light From the Heavens | Maladie (Amy Manson) has visions of the alien crawling through the tunnels and makes Hague (Denis O’Hare) dig a deeper and deeper hole. Back with Augustus and Lavinia, she reveals that she lost her ability to walk after he pushed her down a flight fo stairs after she burned his aviary. He’s had enough and walks out on her, leaving her in the tunnel. Hugo gets a telegram informing him of his father’s death, but he carries on with his party at the club. Amalia and Penance’s trek through the tunnels is interrupted by Maladie, who falls from the hole in the ceiling she dug. Maladie threatens to kill Penance, but Amalia deduces that Maladie can find the alien. When Maladie goes after it, Penance realizes that if Amalia find the alien, she’ll return to her future and Penance immediately says goodbye to her as she chases after Maladie.
Hague kills Maladie’s henchman holding him hostage, while Amalia follows Maladie through a wall and into Hugo’s club. They fight until they see the alien swimming around in a pool, but the pool leads to a current to the river. They both swim after it, but the alien sees both of them and connects them via a glowing light coming from its body that overtakes both of them when… The episode ends.
