The Hollywood Reporter has learned that the globe trotting sci-fi series will not continue at Netflix. This news comes one day after Netflix CEO Reed Hastings claimed that the streaming giant needs to cancel more shows.
Despite the bad news, Netflix VP of Original Content Cindy Holland had good final words for the series. “Never has there been a more truly global show with an equally diverse and international cast and crew, which is only mirrored by the connected community of deeply passionate fans all around the world,” Holland said in a statement.
The series, co-created by Lilly and Lana Wachowski of “The Matrix” fame, was noted for its diverse cast and LGBT protagonists. The series starred Brian J. Smith, Jamie Clayton, Doona Bae, Tina Desai and Max Riemelt, among others.
“Sense8” joins the rare lineup of Netflix originals to be cancelled, after series like “The Get Down,” “Longmire,” “Hemlock Grove” and “Bloodline.”
