“The Defenders” Casts Sigourney Weaver as Villain

Netflix’s four show crossover event series The Defenders is only a year out, and that means that news about the highly anticipated series is starting to pour in. Now, Marvel fans know who The Defenders will be facing off against next year.

Legendary actress Sigourney Weaver has been cast as the as-of-yet unnamed villain in The Defenders. This news was announced on Twitter via Marvel’s Vice President of Digital Media Ryan Penagos.

While it is unconfirmed which character Weaver will be playing, Marvel Head of Television Jeph Loeb cryptically called her “a worthy foe” for the team.

Weaver is known for roles in films such as “Alien,” “Ghostbusters,” “Galaxy Quest,” “Avatar” and many more. It was previously rumored that she was in consideration for a Marvel role, which has now been confirmed.

The Defenders will feature characters from Netflix series such as “Daredevil,” “Jessica Jones,” “Luke Cage” and “Iron Fist.” Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter and Finn Jones are revising their roles from the respective series in the crossover, which is expected to premiere in 2017.
