Though we were there for the 100th episode celebration, the scene we were watching being filmed was for episode 99 (#511) “Key Move,” which aired Friday, March 4.

Directed by Eric Laneuville, the scene we sat in for featured Nick (David Giuntoli), Trubel (Jacqueline Toboni) and Adalind (Claire Coffee). The trio surrounded a large table which laid about a couple of dozen scattered photographs. The shot was set up to capture Nick and Adalind’s side with Trubel’s back to the camera.

Several takes were done with Giuntoli’s character on a phone call with Rosalee. Between takes, we watched as Claire Coffee made funny faces to her fellow co-stars. It just made me love her even more to see how adorable she is.

While they took a break to reset, David Giuntoli approached us to say a quick hello. Guys, he is so beautiful in person and so nice! He chatted with us for a bit before heading back in front of the camera.

This time, the cameras were set on the opposite side, now showing Trubel’s side of the conversation and a more clear view of the photographs on the table. Several takes were done with the trio studying the photographs and Trubel gathering them all together in one stack.

In one of the various takes, Jacqueline pointed out the continuity of a specific point in the scene. “I think I already had the photos in my hands at this part,” she said to Laneuville.

What I found interesting, was that between her side of the takes and the gathering up of the photos, a crew member came in each time to meticulously place the scattered photos on the table whenever they would start over.

Just as Claire Coffee made funny faces in between takes, with Jacqueline, stretches were her thing. You could tell she was in the zone. And when she wasn’t stretching, she was goofing off with David and Claire.

Once more, director Eric Laneuville called action, Nick, Trubel, and Adalind studied the photos before Trubel gathered them, and Nick asked Rosalee about some travel documents. “I wish I was going with you,” Trubel said to Nick with a smile. We wish so too! Trubel needs to kick some ass in Germany!

The final product of the scene that aired on TV was less than a minute long. It’s crazy to think that that whole minute took about an hour to film.

We stayed for one last reset and the setup of another scene. We watched as stand-ins for David and Claire stood in position while the lighting was set and cameras were blocked. We also got a glimpse of baby Kelly’s stand-in, a doll, which David was playing around with, which made us chuckle.
