Lydia Martin was put through the wringer last season on MTV’s supernatural drama Teen Wolf. When the series returns for its sixth and final season later this year, fans of our favorite little Banshee will be happy to know that Lydia will have a bit of a break from being in the center of all the madness.
PopWire had the chance to sit down with Lydia herself, Holland Roden, at the San Diego Comic-Con where she spoke briefly about what’s coming up.
“Lydia is out of Eichen House and doesn’t have to quite fight off every single human being who ever lived,” she says with relief. “She’s back in her heels in solving Beacon Hills’ crimes with her friends.”
With Teen Wolf coming to an end, Roden says that the farewell season will finally explore her Banshee origins and more.

“There is one episode that really focuses on the Irish folklores as a whole more than just her family,” she previews. “That answers a lot of questions as to the inner workings of how banshee to banshee communicate.”
Speaking of Banshee communication, one of Lydia’s esteemed powers is her ability to scream and use the massive and encompassing sound waves to knock her opponents off their feet. While having that ability is a unique and fun one to have, she says that it definitely takes its toll.
“It strained my vocal chords so I now have a raspy voice because of all the screaming,” she tells us. Luckily for the actress, the show has over a thousand different screams from Holland that they’ve recorded and saved throughout the seasons that they can mix and reuse so she’s “stopped screaming for the most part in season 4 and 5.”
Thanks to Holland’s scream database, her vocal chords have had a chance to relax and she doesn’t suffer for lock jaw as much as she used to. “I occasionally have to do a new kind of scream depending on what the scene is, but for the most part it’s been able to rest for a couple years.”

Roden goes on to share that she has recorded a couple new screams that we will be hearing in the new season, and whether she screams live on set during filming, or on their make-shift ADR set, she explains that “it’s still several takes and not fun.”
What is fun for Lydia and her group of friends is the fact that they are now in their final year of high school and graduation is inching closer and closer. But will we get to see them reach that important milestone in their lives?
“Graduation [is] mentioned a couple times in the first half of [season] six,” she previews, “but it hasn’t been fully realized as far as plot line goes. So we’ll see how it manifests in the second half of six. We haven’t shot it yet.”
Finally, on the relationship front, Holland Roden teases a tiny bit of scoop that might make a lot of fans very happy.
“Scott goes into the season single and that’s because the major central relationship of the season is focused elsewhere and that is with Lydia and a particular other person. I will let you all finish that sentence.”
“Stydia” anyone?
The 20-episode final season of Teen Wolf premieres November on MTV.
