Tonight on an all-new episode of MTV’s Sweet/Vicious, we go back to the night where it all began — the night Jules was raped and her life was changed forever.
MTV provided OMFGTV with a screener of the installment, titled “Heartbreaker” and we got actress Eliza Bennett on the phone to talk about how important the episode is in understanding Jules’ trauma.
“Heartbreaker” plays with time — traveling back and forth between the night of Jules’ rape (and the immediate aftermath) and present day. The flashbacks make for a hard watch but Bennett says that is what makes it crucial for them to tackle as a series.
“I know it might be triggering in some way for some people but I think it’s important to tell that story and to hopefully in some way also educate people in what some sexual assault trauma can look like after it happens.”
The present day sections of the episode have a bit of a lighter tone (most of the time) as we get to tag along for Opharris Day.
“Episode seven is great because we have Opharris Day which is the anniversary of Harris (Brandon Mychal Smith) and Ophelia’s (Taylor Dearden) friendship,” Bennett says, and it includes many ‘activities’ that are in true Opharris form.
As she is now staying with Ophelia, Jules tags along so that Ophelia can continue to be an amazing friend to her. “Ophelia’s kind of like her [mom] for [Opharris Day]– kind of her chaperone for the day,” Bennett says, chuckling.
