MTV Serves Up First Victims for Scream’s Ghostface.
MTV is hoping to recreate the success of its hit supernatural series, Teen Wolf, by dipping its feet into horror franchise, Scream. Now, over two years after the pilot project was first announced, MTV has released casting details for the potential series.
Willa Fitzgerald (Royal Pains) toplines the horror franchise adaptation and will star alongside Amy Forsyth (Reign), John Karna (The Neighbors), Carlson Young (The Kroll Show) and newcomer Amadeus Serafini, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
Jamie Travis (Faking It) is set to direct with a pilot script written by Jay Beattie and Dan Dworkin (Revenge), with Jill Blotevogel (Harper’s Island) on hand as Executive Producer and Showrunner.
Via THR: Fitzgerald will star as Emma Duvall, a classic beauty whose looks and popularity hide a natural shyness and intellectual nature. Her new life with the “in crowd” leaves her estranged from her from childhood best friend, Audrey.
Forsyth’s Audrey Jensen is the daughter of a Lutheran pastor. She’s described as an artsy loner who aspires to be a filmmaker.
Karna is set as Noah Foster, a creative computer genius with a vast knowledge of pop culture and the tech world. He’s best friends with Audrey.
Young will portray Brooke Maddox, the charismatic leader of the popular crew whose personality vacillates between bubbly sweetness and ferocious sex appeal.
The slasher genre is proving to be a hit — Bates Motel is faring well on A&E and a television adaptation of the life of machete-wielding Jason Vorhees, “Friday the 13th,” is currently in development with no network yet attached.
What do you think of the casting news so far? Could one (or more) of these faces be donning the infamous Ghostface killer mask?
Rowell was born and raised on Maui, Hawai’i, and now lives in the almost-as-green Pacific Northwest. He’s obsessed with Cirque du Soleil, loves teen dramas (especially those with a supernatural element) and horror movies, and is addicted to sushi. Prior to PopWire, he created individual fan sites for the shows Friends, Hellcats, Nikita and others, which led to creating and working on OMFGTV.
