After an unexpected cliffhanger, Ms. Marvel‘s latest episode, “Time and Again,” takes us back in time to the Partition of India, where Kamala finds herself in after an attack from the Clandestine. Let’s dive in!
History Lesson | Our episode begins with a newsreel about Partition, in which India was divided into Pakistan, where many Muslims went to avoid the British. In British occupied India in 1942, a woman carrying Kamala’s (Iman Vellani) magical bangle is hiding from British soldiers. She declines shelter from a helpful Muslim man, but eventually changes her mind and takes refuge in his cottage, introducing herself as Ayesha. Some time later, surprise, surprise, Ayesha gives birth to their daughter. A few years later, Kamran’s mother arrives and demands the bangle from her so they can return to their dimension.

New Beginnings | The next day, Ayesha gives her bangle to her daughter and talks her husband into fleeing their village. When he demands to know why they are running, she shows him the magical bangle and makes him promise to keep their daughter and the bangle safe. They arrive at the crowded train station, where Kamran’s mother shows up and stabs Ayesha for betraying her. With Ayesha bleeding to death and her daughter lost in the crowd, she summons her magical energy and suddenly, Kamala arrives just in time to see Ayesha die. Kamala finds her future grandmother in the crowd and uses her powers to create the stars that leads the little girl to her father in the crowd. Essentially, Kamala rescued her own grandmother! Hyper trippy!
Opening the Veil | Kamala wakes up in the same place she was in the previous episode with Kamran’s mother and the Clandestine around her as well as a sliver of energy opening up in the air. The Clandestine try to enter the portal, but the henchmen who enters is immediately destroyed by the energy. Kamran’s mother still tries to enter the portal, but Kamala reminds her of Kamran. His mother enters the portal regardless and dies, but sends the veil’s energy into Kamran (Rish Shah) miles away.

The veil then seals up, just as Muneeba (Zenobia Shraff) and her mother arrive and see Kamala using her powers, but both seem okay with it. After bidding adieu to Kareem (Aramis Knight), Kamala finally makes peace with her mom and grandmother. Back in Jersey City, Bruno (Matt Lintz) is visited by Kamran, who wants to wait out for his mother, just as Damage Control drones arrive and he uses his new powers to knock it off course and accidentally destroy the convenience store below.
