“Motherland: Fort Salem” Recap: This is America

Freeform’s Motherland: Fort Salem just delivered another amazing episode! Abigail deals with the consequences of her Waricane, Tally digs for more answers about the vision she had, and Raelle and Scylla briefly lock eyes at a Camarilla event. “Not Our Daughters” was written by Bryan Q. Miller and directed by Nimisha Mukerji.

Answer the Call | The episode begins with a video trying to entice more witches to enlist in the Army. Abigail (Ashley Nicole Williams) is dealing with the fallout of attempting a Waricane with Adil (Tony Giroux). He’s leaving for India soon, and it’s clear that Abigail is bummed. They have an awkward and sad goodbye.

Abigail is feeling a lot of pressure from her mother to find a man to perform a Hand Fastening ceremony with. Tally (Jessica Sutton) uses this opportunity with Petra (Catherine Lough Haggquist) to pick her brain about Alder (Lyne Renée) being at the Martyrdom. Petra denies that Alder was there, but Tally is still determined to get answers.

Protests | Anacostia (Demetria McKinney) filled Petra Bellweather in on what’s going on with the Camarilla, and they fill in Alder. Alder is pissed that this all went on without her knowledge, and her and Anacostia have a tense discussion about what’s going to happen next.

Scylla (Amalia Aolm) and Willa (Diana Pavlovská) discuss what’s happening with the hearing tests and the Camarilla. Scylla steals a picture of Raelle (Taylor Hickson) while she’s there, she misses her girl.

Outside the Army’s testing center a group of protestors have gathered to protest young women going into the Army. But we know the Camarilla are also there and behind something bad that’s going to happen.

Alder has everyone from Sekhmet go to the testing center to assist in security, but Raelle is part of Alder’s personal security and Tally is riding with the VP and Penelope (Mellany Barros).

Anacostia and Scylla arrive at the protest together and watch Orsatti (Thomas Nicholson). They suspect he’s the one who will lead them to the higher-ups. Anacostia seems unsettled by what she sees at the protest. They meet up with Shane (Juan Riedinger) and Bonnie (Emma Pedersen), who give them face masks to conceal their identity.

Penelope demonstrates her abilities for the crowd, but it’s not well-received by the protestors. The first girl getting tested is frightened to tears by those chanting at her. Then a molotov cocktail gets thrown and Alder looks furious.

The Spree? | Anacostia sends Alder a message warning her about what she’s seen outside and what she thinks may go down. Alder seems very shaken by the news that the Camarilla are behind protestors and that an attack may be coming. Alder doesn’t want to frighten the public until they have more information, so she tells them that the Spree are on site, ensuring that she can blame whatever happens next on them.

The Army’s Far Speech has been hacked and Abigail begins to hear her dead cousin’s voice. She looks for her in an underground parking lot and is met by the Camarilla operatives that she fought at the wedding. She’s outnumbered and can’t use any powers.

Raelle addresses the crowd, and Scylla sees and hears it. Suddenly there is a large energy pulse sent out that knocks everyone out momentarily. The Camarilla. The police use this opportunity to sweep in and start making arrests. Raelle and Tally realize Abigail isn’t with them so Tally rushes to find her.

And it’s a good thing she does, because Abigail needs some help. Desperately.

Raelle and Scylla briefly lock eyes during all the chaos outside the testing center, but Raelle quickly loses sight of her love. But she does find the photo Scylla took from her mother.

Raelle later tells Tally about her Scylla sighting while they sit beside Abigail in the hospital wing. Abigail wakes up and blames herself for what happened to Charvel, and is shocked when she learns that Alder lied to the people about the Spree. Tally can’t take any more lies and goes directly to Alder.

She asks about the recruit she keeps dreaming about.
