This week on Freeform’s Motherland: Fort Salem we learned all about how weddings and marriages work in this witchy world. They enter 5 year marriage contracts, then have the option to go their separate ways after the time is up, which sounds pretty awesome! We also see Raelle and Scylla share a few dances, Abigail kick some ass, and Tally sees something she wasn’t meant to. ‘Bellweather Season’ was written by Joy Kecken and directed by M.J. Bassett.
Sneaking In | The episode begins with some unit bonding as the trio prep for the wedding and meeting the Dean of War College. Raelle (Taylor Hickson) asks if Scylla (Amalia Holm) can come to the wedding, but Abigail (Ashley Nicole Williams) responds with a hard no. Raelle tells Abigail she’s going to be a mess without Scylla there, then she grabs something and storms out.
Raelle meets Scylla and the two walk through the woods together talking about their favorite places. Scylla says hers is a beach near where the wedding will be. The couple joke about running away together, and Scylla says they’ll go “somewhere safe” after the wedding, but Raelle reminds her that they’re witches so there is no safe. Raelle then pulls out the box she grabbed when she left her room and gives it to Scylla. It’s a corsage made from an animal skull. It’s “sexy weird,” just like they are. Scylla also has something for Raelle, but it’s not as tangible as a corsage. Scylla writes an S in her palm, and it shows up on Raelle’s, that way Scylla can let Raelle know she’s thinking about her from afar.
After the pair part ways, Scylla returns to her room and admires her gift before speaking with the balloon in the mirror who tells her to bring Raelle to them at 6pm.
Fast Forward to the wedding, and Scylla has used her fancy Spree fire trick to disguise herself and sneak into the wedding. When our favorite trio spot her Abigail is visibly pissed off, but Raelle is very happy. Abigail quickly introduces her unit to other Bellweather’s, but fails to introduce Scylla, so Raelle introduces her girlfriend. Petra Bellweather (Catherine Lough Haggquist) makes it clear Scylla is not a welcomed guest.

Tying the Knot | Berryessa (Jill Morrison) performs the wedding ceremony, which involves the actual tying of knots. After the ceremony Raelle and Scylla dance together, but Scylla is keeping a close eye on the time. Anacostia (Demetria McKinney) has spotted the couple dancing and is giving Scylla the stink eye, and Raelle does not like it. She confronts Anacostia to defend her girlfriend being there, but it interrupted by Tally () who drags her away leaving Scylla alone with Anacostia. Anacostia again tells Scylla to stay away from Raelle, but I have a feeling Scylla isn’t going to listen.
Tally has spotted Gerit (Kai Bradbury) at the wedding and goes off to say hi despite Abigail’s protests. Abigail then explains to Raelle that Gerit is engaged, that’s why he’s wearing a sash. Oh no, poor Tally!
Tally steals Gerit away from the crowd and they kiss… a lot. Gerit tries to explain something to her, but she interrupts him to talk about other things. The pair exchange ‘I love you’s’ and Gerit tries again to tell Tally the truth, but they have to get back to the ceremony for an announcement. That announcement just happens to be Gerit’s engagement announcement, and poor Tally is HEARTBROKEN.
The unit gets introduced to the Dean of War College, but Tally is so shaken she excuses herself and Raelle follows to check on her. That left Abigail with the Dean, who tells her that she’s getting into War College with no problems because of who her mother is. Abigail seems hurt by this, she wants to get in on her own merits.
Tally decides she needs to be alone, so Raelle uses this opportunity to confront Petra Bellweather about her mother. Though she was being verbally attacked, Petra played it off well and even complimented Raelle and her mother which definitely throws Raelle off.
Abigail has gone to help her cousin Charvel (Bernadette Beck) into her dress and the two bond. Abigail expresses her frustrations about getting a free-ride just because she’s a Bellweather, she wants to make a name for herself instead of relying on the Bellweather name. Charvel decides she wants to soak her feet, so Abigail leaves her alone.
Balloons | Tally is crying in the bathroom when Scylla enters. Tally hides making Scylla think she was alone, and she contacted the balloon through the mirror. The balloon gave Scylla an extraction point to meet at 6pm, with Raelle. Scylla wants to stay with Raelle to make sure she’s safe, but those aren’t her orders. Tally sees all of this.
Scylla finds Raelle and tries to get her to go to the beach with her right now, but Raelle just wants to dance, Scylla agrees to do that even though it’s almost 6pm.
Abigail finds her mother and goes off on her about getting into school just because of her name and what her mother has accomplished. Gerit comes to her looking for Tally, but Abigail tells him to just leave her friend alone.
Tally finds Anacostia and pulls her aside to fill her in on what she just saw in the bathroom.
Raelle and Scylla are still dancing and Scylla is thinking about all their memories together. 6 o’clock strikes, but Scylla doesn’t move to try to take Raelle anywhere. Instead, she tells her, “no matter what happens, I love you.”
After speaking with her mother, Abigail returns to Charvel to help her finish getting ready, but she’s greeted with an awful sight. Charvel is dead in the bath, her vocal cords cut out. The Spree who did it are still there and attack Abigail. They’re using a device that prevents witches from doing magic, so Abigail has to fight them.
Outside, dozens of blue balloons are heading towards the wedding. Petra and others sing up winds to push the balloons away. During all the chaos Raelle loses Scylla and can’t find her.
Petra is looking for Abigail and finds her inside with her vocal cords about to be cut out. Petra jumps into action and the mother/daughter duo kick some Spree ass! They break the device preventing them from doing magic and the Spree set themselves on fire before fleeing.
Outside, everything is damaged and there is still no sign of Scylla, but Raelle finds the corsage she made her on the ground. Abigail comes out of the house covered in blood and in shock, she tells Raelle and Tally about her cousin. This ended up being the wedding from Hell.
