Marvel Studios has at long last dropped the highly anticipated first trailer for the sequel to 2019’s “Captain Marvel,” simply titled “The Marvels.” The sequel sees the return of Brie Larson’s super heroine, alongside the return of two new heroes from the Disney+ series “Ms. Marvel” and “WandaVision,” Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel and Teyonah Harris as Monica Rambeau.
The trailer showcases that the three lead super women have been switching places every time they use their powers, as previewed in the post credits scene of the “Ms. Marvel” season finale. Also starring in the film are Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Zenobia Shroff as Muneeba Khan and Mohan Kapoor as Yusuf Khan, along with mysterious new characters played by Zawe Ashton and Park Seo-joon.
Directed by Nia DaCosta (“Candyman”) and written by Gene Colan and Roy Thomas, “The Marvels” is the thirty-third entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which has been going strong since 2008’s “Iron Man.” It also marks the feature film debut of Vellani, whose performance in Disney+’s “Ms. Marvel” earned her a Saturn Award for Best Performance By a Younger Actor in a Streaming Series in 2022.
