“The Magicians” Recap: The Murder Siblings
The Magicians penultimate episode was so crazy! Not only did we see how Kady and Zelda got out of The Library, but we also had the return of Christopher Plover and watched The Monster bring his sister back and have her spirit possess Julia! ‘The Secret Sea’ was written by Elle Lipson and David Reed and directed by Shannon Kohli, and here’s what happened!
Inside the Poison Room | Zelda (Mageina Tovah) and Kady (Jade Tailor) aren’t doing so hot locked in the poison room. They stumble upon the most unfortunate person, Christopher Plover(Charles Shaughnessy), but he offers help in exchange for getting him out with them. He says he’s been eating moss and thinks it’s what’s been keeping him alive, so the ladies eat some too. But the poison continues to effect them, and Plover realizes the spells Martin put on him to keep him alive are still working, that’s why he hasn’t died.
Just when things seem to be at their bleakest, Dean Fogg (Rick Worthy) comes to the rescue and gets them all, including Plover, out, but stays behind himself and gets caught. Once safe, Zelda leaves to take the antidote but Kady doesn’t go with her. Penny23 (Arjun Gupta) realizes she’s not taking it so she can die and be with Penny in the underworld, hopefully that’s NOT what happens!

The Reservoir | Fen (Brittany Curran) has found a reservoir of magic in Fillory and sends Quentin (Jason Ralph) and the others a rabbit to let them know. Penny23 travels himself and Q to Fillory to check it out, and find that yes Fen did find a reservoir of magic. Unfortunately there is some sort of curse protecting it, because when Josh tried to touch it earlier he turned into a fish that Fen now has in a fish bowl. Penny brings them both back to Earth to figure out what to do. Fen tells Margo (Summer Bishil) what happened, and says that Josh has to have eye contact with someone almost constantly or else he will die. Naturally, Margo takes up the job. She gets a lead on a guy who can help her with Josh, and he suggests she pops out her fairy eye to watch him at all times, and it totally works. Margo’s rockin’ an eye patch again!
Alice (Olivia Taylor-Dudley) and Q come face to face with Plover back at their safe house and they are definitely not happy to see him, but they accept that he can help them with the reservoir. Plover describes a magical flower that will only bloom for someone who truly loves Fillory, breaking the protection spell on the reservoir allowing people to touch it and access its magic. Zelda tells the group that she’s read all of their books, and only Q has any shot of getting the flower to bloom. Penny23 travels Q, Plover, and Alice back to Fillory to try to get it to bloom. Quentin’s views of Fillory have drastically changed since he’s adventured to the world and learned the truth about it, he can’t get the flower to bloom. But once everyone leaves the cavern and he gets brutally honest with himself and Fillory, it blooms, allowing him and Alice to drink from the reservoir in time to get to the Library to try to fend off an attack.
The Murder Siblings | The Monster (Hale Appleman) spirited away Julia (Stella Maeve) at the end of the previous episode, and now we find out why. He wants to put his sisters spirit in her body. Uh-oh. As soon as Julia realizes this she calls upon the Lady Underground (Garcelle Beauvais) for help. The Lady shows up briefly, but cannot stop The Monster and his sisters spirit takes over Julia’s body. The sister thinks her brother has grown weak in her absence, she is clearly on another level of bad news than he is.
The pair decide to head to the Library, they need answers. And the only way they know how to get them is through violence and murder. The Library is a blood bath by the time Q comes face to face with the murder siblings.
