Wow. How can Loki possibly top the cliffhanger to end all cliffhangers from last week? It does big time. “Science/Fiction” is the most mind melting, personal and exciting episode yet! Here goes…
Failsafe | Picking up after last week’s mind melter, Loki (Tom Hiddleston) opens his eyes to an empty room and walks around to find absolutely no one as an automated voice says that the failsafe mode has been initiated. Loki starts time slipping again and sees another version of himself from the future before slipping back moments prior and then ending up in the exact same place he just saw himself in. Then, things get trippy as the entire TVA dissolves into ribbons as Loki slips to Alcatraz in 1962, where Casey (Eugene Cordero) is trying to break out, but he doesn’t recognize Loki. Then, Loki slips from there to McDonald’s, then to a hospital in New York in 2012, where B-15 (Wunmi Mosaku) is treating a little girl’s broken arm, then to a motorsport store in Cleveland 2022, where Mobius (Owen Wilson) is selling jet skis, but also doesn’t recognize Loki, before he then ends up the TVA’s time theater for a mere moment.
Get the Band Back Together | Next up, OB (Ke Huy Quan) is selling copies of his science fiction novels at a bookstore before being chased out by the owners. He arrives at a warehouse that looks like his lab at the TVA, when Loki appears and explains everything about what happened, which OB believes hook line and sinker. OB says that if they can get the gang back together, there’s a chance they can travel back to the TVA using a tempad, if only OB could build one. Fortunately, Loki happens to have a copy of OB’s TVA handbook which has the specs for the tempad.

Loki then slips to see Mobius taking the trash out at his house and tries to explain what’s going on to him, which of course Mobius doesn’t buy- until OB arrives via a time portal he created after eighteen months of work. Loki convinces him that they need to fix the TVA, but he can return to his sons at home whenever he wants and uses the same argument to rope Casey and B-15 into the plan and take them to OB’s warehouse.
Everything Falls Apart | Lastly, Loki meets Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) outside the McDonald’s, but surprisingly, she remembers him and everything they’ve been through. However, she doesn’t want to return to the way things were, saying that the others deserve to choose to live whatever lives they want. Loki admits that he is only doing this because he wants his friends back, but Sylvie says that he should let them go. A defeated Loki returns to the group and tells them all to go home, as Sylvie goes to record store to listen to The Velvet Underground- before everything around her dissolves. Sylvie manages to use a tempad to go meet Loki and inform him of what’s happening, but it’s too late- everyone and everything around Loki dissolves away. Then, Loki manages to time slip two more times, both times a few moments prior, and finally, right as Sylvie walks in. He realizes that he can now control his time slipping and can rewrite the story, as he slips back to right before the temporal loom melted down.
