In an episode that any other show couldn’t pull off, “Chapter 14” of “Legion” saw multiple realities in which David simultaneously exists, each one leading to one inevitable truth.
It’s hard to recap this particular episode, seeing as there was essentially no storyline, just random snapshots of various lives that David could’ve led, almost all of which had some bad conclusion- one of them ended with Kerry chopping him in half!

There’s a film called “Mr. Nobody” that took this concept down an equally trippy avenue, as in that film, Jared Leto saw every possible outcome of every decision he has and will ever make.
“Legion” even attempts to condense this theory into one short scene, which is about the only explanation we get the entire hour. At first, I thought this episode was simply copying “Mr. Nobody’s” formula, but then, in the final few minutes, something hit me.
The final scene of the episode is Amy dropping David off at Clockworks, a scene we can assume is real in the course of the series. The show then cathartically recaps the series thus far back to last week’s ending, seeming to imply that despite every possible outcome for David, this reality is the one he’s stuck in. Add to that the fact that this reality is one where he couldn’t save his sister from dying. Surprisingly deep stuff for an otherwise experimental episode.
“Legion” airs Tuesdays at 10pm on FX.
