“Legion” Recap: Down With the Sickness
Potentially one of “Legion’s” all time best and most creative episodes, “Chapter 11” saw David searching for the missing monk who holds the key to finding Farouk. Unfortunately, the monk has sinister plans that involve a nightmarish trip for David.
The Peasant and the Villain | David once again tele-commutes with Farouk, where Lenny is constantly trying to kill herself to free herself from the mind world, to no avail. Farouk reveals to David that the missing monk from Mi-Go Order is responsible for the Catalyst and Oliver was simply following his tracks. Farouk also tells David that his efforts to change the future that Future Syd saw could kill her. But you’d still have present day Syd! Didn’t think of that one did ya?

Conversion Disorder | As David and crew search the Division headquarters for the monk, Ptonomy, along with many others in the base, become infected with the Catalyst. David and Cary are left unharmed and so, the pair enter Ptonomy’s mind to find him trapped in a fantasy in which he lives a carefree existence, forgetting everything seconds after it happens. David purges the Catalyst from his mind and the crew go off searching for the rest.
They find Melanie next, and her mind leads to one of the coolest scenes in “Legion” history: David, Cary and Ptomony are in a completely dark space, the only light being mysterious instructions appearing to them. David responds with a typewriter, typing out a thoughtful poem about two people falling in love that wakes up Melanie. This scene really needs to be seen to be believed.
Humming a Catchy Tune | Cary finds Kerry infected and is rightly horrified, but still refuses to swear. He then oddly disappears while trying to merge with her. Uh-oh. David confronts the monk on the rooftop after getting a vision of the monk’s life at the monastery, where monks who disagreed with their practices were hung by the neck. The monk tells David to kill Farouk, but commits suicide before giving up his body’s location. And to top it off, David finds the infected Syd and when he heads into her mind, he ends up in a snowstorm. And the episode ends right there! I’ve never been more maddened by an abrupt ending!
“Legion” airs Tuesdays on FX.
